It's noticeably missing from the app now since the update to support D2. I can't be the only one who enjoyed reading over the lore cards I unlocked right?
Edit: while I do enjoy the scannable pieces of lore I honestly think they're a bit lacking and the lore page on the exotics and some legendary gear is cool I still want to read up on other pieces of lore. They do either need to add a codex for the lore both in game and on the app or bring back the old Grimoire. (Hopefully it's the codex option.)

Bungie listened to He minority group, as always, in order to make a large decision. Destiny's story wasn't "lacking", you had to work for it and figure it out yourself through the Grimoire cards. It left the story up to interpretation. It's a very cool story-telling mechanic and I loved working for the cards and piecing bits together to find a story. Bungie got rid of their best story-telling mechanic because not enough people liked it. I heard a saying once that goes, "It's better to make something that you know a few people will love, than to make something that you hope a lot of people will like."

Edited by octipussprime: 9/20/2017 11:38:24 AMI want the grimoire in game, and I want more grimoire. The scannables are very lacking telling us what we already know. This game is definitely a new start for the casuals that hated the first game.
-
Nope, I appreciate and like in-game lore but also like the lore being in the website, also the armory.
-
You are not alone, I too yearn for the sweet Lore within the beautiful grimoire cards

Edited by Fishyb: 9/13/2017 12:25:05 PMOnce again bungie simply remove something no one wanted removed, instead of just adding a simple LORE tab to the menu. All anyone wanted was for it to be accessible in game. That was clearly too difficult to a concept to tackle grasp so off it goes. It's not that hard.
-
No. I mean I like all of the scan-ables. There's just nowhere that all of that stuff is collected after you scan them. I was kind of hoping they would keep track in game. I do like that it is all accessible in game, however I would have liked an in game lore tab to explore after it was found. That was what I was hoping for which was why I wasn't too worried about losing the grimoire. I guess I just thought that was such a no-brainer.

I do not understand why putting lore in a game is so hard to understand. Destiny is a Shooter, sure. But they also put in rpg elements. Look at what works and do it. Look at Elder Scrolls. Do What Elder Scrolls does. -Put in books, journals, letters, etc. -Have Dozens (<< Emphasis on that word) of NPCs to talk to that also explain stuff. Take after Bioshock and Fallout; put in Audio Journals. Mass Effect 1, and/or 2, gives you a whole menu full of audio files that explain the details of the universe. in Elder Scrolls Online you can earn the ability to record every written word you can find. Shadow of Mordor gives a lore file for every enemy and character you run into The Grimoire should be a Database in the game that gives the Players existing information and updates with new findings

How the hell are they going to put something like the book of sorrows in the game? I hope the raid is their way of doing so. Don't get me wrong, the new lore is great, but it seems so... bland compared to the grimoire cards. The stories they had in them were pretty cool and I don't know how they plan to incorporate something as awesome as that in the game through scanning.
-
As much as I disliked having to use the app for lore, it was so much better. Now it feels like you are getting fragments of stories and never hear the end because you didn't travel to a certain corner to find the missing part(s) and you don't know if you are even missing any
-
I'll miss the potential for larger stories like the Book of Sorrows and the story of Thorn. Without the grimoire there's simply nowhere to put these.
-
Bungie misunderstood people's complaints. Non lore people seemed to think the D1 story was tucked away in grimoire rather than in game. When they said they wanted grimoire in game, they were actually just asking for an understandable story in game. People who never bothered to read grimoire didn't know it was lore beyond the story. Grimoire could have and should have still continued. Stories like Shin and Yor, Clovis Bray, BoS, Mariad, etc can exist as lore to establish canon without being part of the main in game story. Some of the RoI grimoire about the iron lords probably should have been more in game, but most grimoire was fine. Let people have to chance to read in game if they like. Though I doubt many would log in and read instead of play if checking it on the app was too inconvenient.

Edited by The Puncher of Shrimp: 9/14/2017 11:15:12 AMIt was one of my favorite things was to read the the cards in loading screens and when waiting on my raid team to get together. Heck sometimes I would ask them if they wanted me to read some of it out loud so we could talk about it.
-
Same here, I mean, think of all those named enemies we killed during the campaign that we know nothing about?
-
When they said grimoire would be literally INSIDE the game, I figured there would be a kiosk for it in the tower or something instead of on the app. But nope. Just removed entirely and given to a few guns and armors
-
I miss hunting dead ghosts.

What we need is some kind of Codex in social spaces or a journal that organizes all the Lore that we've come across, preferably the latter since it could be something akin to a D1 Record Book that we could have on us at all times. A list of all scan items with locations, a picture, and audio and text that becomes available to us once we find and scan the actual item. Organize it by Planet(oid), location, and topic (Fallen, Cabal, Mystery, Misc., etc). I want to read about the special enemies that we fight, what's going on with the enemies and what mysteries surround them! Not everything can be explained through the story or scans, Bungie! This would not only give us a codex of Lore that we could look through at any time, but also give us more reason to actually go out and find as many scan items as possible! Hell, give us Trophy Lore! Lore that not only becomes available once we find enough related material in the game world but also Lore that completes the picture that scans are trying to put together. Are the Fallen now one house ruled by the House of Kings? Give us a massive Lore page after we find all the Fallen related scans about it! I want to know more about this shit and I can't unless I go searching for hours on end for scans that are only paint half the picture, so give me a reason to actually do that.
-
I'd like it if the info was all in the game somewhere, like an archive in the Tower were you can go an read it all. That includes all of the things you can scan in D2. I think it would be nice if you could re-visit the information without having to physically go and scan them again.
-
They should have a scan log, where scannables people have found could go.
-
I do too.
-
They really should have added a library room in the tower where we could go in and read more in depth lore if we so wished
-
Ideally, in game scans PLUS grimoire available BOTH in game and on app.
-
Edited by MiggyXP: 9/11/2017 12:20:57 PMI think they missed the point when a lot of people said "its dumb you had to come on the app, it should be in game too". We actually liked the cards but not coming on the app for it, like it should have a tab in game. I think that is what most of us meant when we said "in game". They took it very literal.
-
There was no need to get rid of grimoire cards, all it needed was a tab in the director so you could go in and read the cards if you wanted to. I don't think the in game lore is any where near as immersive. It's a fun game and I'll maybe even put in as many hours as D1 but some of the game feels so dumbed down. It's like they make quality of life choices in some areas which are great and the take a backwards step on issues that didn't need touching.
-
Ghost really hasn't picked up the slack they said he would. He's said maybe like three or four things that add a little bit to the lore. Seriously, he adds to it about three or four lines at a time. How is that supposed to compare to the paragraphs of lore each Grimoire card used to have? It doesn't help that most of his line are quippy ways of saying "we'll kick Ghauls ass".
-
They should of just added it to the game, like make a library or something. It was stupid of them to get rid of it, i miss hunting them ghosts.
-
The new lore system is cool, but it leaves so much to be desired. Some of the scans just state the painfully obvious, or are just the ghost trying to be funny. You don't have to reinvent the wheel Bungie, just put in an in game lore codex. Weapon lore is cool, but it isn't going to tell me anything else. I want to know more about the worlds, not just some gun lore.
