Auto Aim has no place in PVP on PC. It completely diminishes the experience, and it must be removed.

I know it's long, but please read my post before you respond. Even if you disagree with me, we're on the same side; We all want this game to be as awesome as possible. I am NOT saying that: - I'm salty because I'm getting totally stomped by controller users. - People shouldn't be allowed to use controllers. - Controller users are console player trash and are innately inferior to members of the PC Master Race. - I don't understand why Auto Aim is in the game at all and it should be removed entirely. I AM saying that: - PVP with an uneven playing field feels bad. Not only does it make it more frustrating to lose ("I only lost because Bungie gives controller users free aimbots") it devalues winning ("I can't be sure if we won because I'm awesome, or because the other three players on my team are playing with controllers"). - It opens another vector for cheating. We're already seeing this with players who plug in controllers to add the aim assist to their M+KB play. You're going to have your hands full with people trying to cheat as it is, even if you find a way to track and ban this behavior it's going to be a constant game of cat-and-mouse as people continually discover ways to abuse the aimbot you yourselves added to the game. Why not avoid this headache altogether by disabling it in PVP? - People will take PVP less seriously knowing there are sanctioned aimbots among the playerbase, and it will irreparably damage not only the engagement of your most ardent players (the competitively-minded who will stick it out between PVE releases) but if you have designs on making this an Esport, you can kiss those goodbye. The jokes at the expense of your game will be torrential. I will say that I have no issue with Auto Aim existing in PVE. If it makes peoples' experience better with their control method of choice, I totally get it and I think it should be kept in the game. This just doesn't make sense when applied to PVP, though. It's less fun than it could be, for everyone involved. It's gotta go. Speaking as a core gamer, I want to sink a bunch of time into getting good at the PVP in this game. But if it's cheapened in this way, the simple fact is I'm going to get bored and frustrated, and go back to one of the many FPSes already available which actually presents a legitimately competitive experience. Thanks for reading.

  • +1 agree PC players generally do not like aim assist and its nothing against console players. I hope with the PC release date coming in late October that quality of life changes are made for the PC version. Even though we're all gamers and waiting to sink our teeth into the game console and pc players generally have different preferences and taste and hope Bungie understands that.

  • I rarely comment on these kinds of forums, but its game breaking and needs to removed or at least nerfed quite a lot. I takes all the fun out of PVP when people with controllers are two-shotting you as soon as you turn a corner (with 0 skill needed), If people absolutely want to play with a controller play on a console, dont be messing with the PC master race.

  • Maybe they can disable ALL controller settings if you don't have one (like grayed out). After you plug in controller that settings should be enabled, but your mouse get disabled. I still think, even with aimbot for controller mouse/keyboard is better. For example, for test let's put 4v4, one team with just controllers and other with m/kybd. Ofc all players with similar skill.

Why is AA so strong on pc people whine about it and doubt the legitimacy of someone being on top of the leaderboard? Why can't AA on consoles be that strong? WHY CAN I ONLY LAND SHOTS WITH A HC AT POINTBLANK?!! AA ain't that strong, if it was you'd know.

          • I LOVE this post. Your point is made clear, concise, and to top it all off, you gave fantastic bits of evidence that point to a possibly mishandled purpose in the PC port of Destiny 2. Well said, well done, well played, my friend. Damn you should've been hired to work on games. That mindset is what gets people super far in any type of business. +1 for fantastic critiquing skills.

ALL it needs is its "dead zone" fixed, that way, it wont "home in", so close to the noggin. Controllers do need some form of 1:1 Articulation, because it operates off of joysticks. REMEMBER: This only BETA and not MLG. HOWEVER, I think the AA should track at least a few pixels off of the body and not aim directly on point, of "weak spots". As .long as it doesn't affect consoles then I could see them removing it entirely.

          • They Prolly aren't gonna do this. A few reasons being that a controller is easily accessible and that it is used in mlg and tournaments. They don't even ban kbm on console overwatch

            • MLG uses controllers in competitive gaming and it is taken very seriously.

When you use one peripheral, it disables input for the other until it detects input and then it switches back. Both peripherals cannot be active at the same time. There is a delay. That doesn't stop some people from emulating a controller while using their keyboard and mouse however. So it's the same, only it requires something that not everyone has by default.

                • Bungie should really have an option to turn on or off auto aim for PC controller and consoles. It is very stupid to have auto aim always ON for controllers and does not allow an option to turn this off. I don't want auto aim to be stuck off either for PvE and PC controllers. Though i am ok with auto-aim forced off for some Crucible playlists. to see how it goes. This problem isn't limited to PC, a few console user have keyboard and mouse with hardware converter that emulate controller on consoles and take advantage of auto aim.

                • I played Destiny 1 for 1200 hours on ps4. If they removed aim assist in pvp i would be -blam!-ed. I really hope they dont. I hope they just find a way to block 3rd party programs from giving their m&k aim assist. You shouldnt need aim assist on a mouse.

                • AA is a weapon trait in destiny like range , stability etc.. AA aka bullet magnetism is observed even with a mouse.. test it while you can by aiming 30 pixel off an head in PvE or PvP. What controllers have that mouse dont have is reticle slow down when over around target and target follows. what need to go is "target follow" only. Please make educated request.

                • nah aim assist is MANDATORY for controller players there's a lot of them and you are just chasing them away from pvp because they quickly realize the massive disadvantage causes them to lose most dopamine moments during gameplay I personally loathe playing games at my computer desk, I learn heavily towards controller games that I can play on my giant screen from my couch or recliner. I play games to relax and that contributes a lot towards relaxing. Also can't hang with friends at my computer desk. Computer desk is extremely anti-social in RL. I could care less about hanging with faceless internet strangers or hearing their random chatter. I always mute it all. I want to pvp in D2 on controller on pc. The pc version looks and loads better. Auto-aim is essential. Still will suck compared to mouse but at least I can have SOME fun, instead of a total absence of dopamine without auto-aim. There is literally no question that autoaim is necessary, the only question is why do you even allow controllers in pvp if you are going to leave out the necessary balancing for players using rough thumbstick aiming.

                  • tried playing a few rounds with my gamepad today to see what's all the fuss about. i don't think aim assist grants you free headshots easily. while it does slightly push & stick your sight towards the enemy, i feel that at times this is more of a nuisance than helping. now i'm not a big time gamepad player, i've played a fair amount of destiny 1 when it released on my PS4 with a gamepad obviously, but i'm simply more comfy with my M&K. maybe someone more used to gamepads will have an easier time dealing big damage with AA, but i simply couldn't play with it at all, sometimes it would stick to my enemy and i was still trying to aim at him, thus actually going out of the lock-on and actually miss shots i could've easily landed if AA wasn't activated at all.to me it's a less precise way of aiming, maybe if you're used to playing with AA more, your reflexes will adapt quicker to it, but i simply can't do easy kills with it, without having practiced with it extensively honestly, i think FPS games in general would do better without it.good aiming comes from practice. if you insist on keeping this and think you're off worse without having it at all, that's you.i think everyone will have a better time without using AA at all, honestly. what really needs changing on gamepads is the sensitivity if you ask me.i cranked that shit up and still felt like it was way to slow turning around.

                  • Let people play how they want. Thats thw great thing about playing on PC. Choices... Maybe they should tone the auto aim down. I agreed with that in Destiny 1! Nothing worse than aiming at someone to have the aim pulled away because someone runs in front of them.
