Well done, Bungie. Well done, indeed.

I've been playing the beta for a time, and I must say, I'm very pleased with how it is. Bungie is one of a handful of companies that ACTUALLY listen to their audience. Here are a two things I particularly liked from both facets of the game. PvE: Ok, where to start? PvE has changed significantly from the original game. I, for one, LOVE the notion of tougher to kill enemies that have been implemented. It enables strikes, for example, to be more team oriented, and makes reckless moves more of a gamble. PvP: I also enjoy playing competitive mode, and not having to worry about getting my nose sniped off as soon as I approach a corner. The fact that these games focus on primary weapons allows for more of a fair fight-- rather than being able to tank with a shotgun. I would go on, but my tiny phone keyboard is a hassle to deal with. Overall, I'm pleased with what was delivered. Well done, Bungie, well done. Edit: I've never edited a post before but 'eergoes. I would also like to argue the point of a slow super: I think the move was two-fold-- 1. To make the game harder 2. To go along with the narrative with the crippled traveler Opinions? P.s. Thanks for the positivity, brothas.

I also like the reduced likelihood of not having me head taken off by a team of snipers. I'm crap with a sniper so won't miss the reduced option of using this. A lot of buddies say they wish for harder levels in PvE, at least as hard as the raids, so all looks promising on that front. Don't know if it was a fluke either, but I found the teamwork required for PvP was a great step forward and as someone who has never been flawless, it gives me renewed hope i might crack this in D2. Good post and I agree with your sentiments.

  • I realize people who are complaining about enemies being too tanky have never read the grimore cards. The cabal lore is defined around order and strongholds. They pack into a location, fortify up, then slowly move forward. However the red legion is the more "spec ops" Force for them, taking risks and specialising in defensive seige tactics. You also have to remember, when you first made a character in D1, do you remember fighting the captains. This guy's soaked some damage with the under-leveled guns you were provided with. A lot of players that came from D1 into the beta were maxed light, max level, had a feel for the skills and their class and we're used to melting the enemies face off. I agree with this post that I love how enemies are more tanky, you can't just run up and hip fire a auto rife at these guys. Take a mid ranged position, aim for weak point, burst fire auto for maximum effectiveness. When the taken got introduced we had to change our playstyle up a bit, as for every enemy you faced in D1. Charging straight ahead at a phalax won't work unless you are looking to get smashed into a wall, you had to change up the way you played for a split second to kill him. I do agree cooldowns need a sizeable buff, but gun damage is right where it needs to be. Some may argue the fact that "well our weapons were legendary and a exotic, it should be doing some damage". You were fighting to hold the tower, if you went in guns blazing and enemies died from just you looking at them, would it feel like you were on the brink of loosing everything? We have yet to play the final product, they have 2 months to patch things up, we can tell they are listening to us cuz they announced a increase in power ammo. Also just a little side note. Anyone saying the shotgun doesn't feel like a heavy has either never used it or never experienced D1 shotguns, the one they gave you absolutely shredded ads. #Rantover
Bungie is one of a handful of companies that ACTUALLY listen to their audience.
This. People don't realize it, but we have been asking for EVERYTHING included in the beta. Primaries are making a comeback, abilities are not as prominent in the crucible, so on and so forth. We literally asked for it.
Or bitched for it 🤷‍♀️
• Its not that the enemies are harder to kill, we are just much weaker with less effective weapons. A cheap way to make a challenge. The strike had no distinguishing mechanics or anything. The floor falling out changes the area, yes, but there was no difference between the battle on the first floor, second or third. The boss was something we have seen multiple times. Both in VOG and POE I guess pvp was good but i dont care. Every game has pvp. Not every game has the incredible pve experience that d1 had. Seems like that is going to be put aside for the MLG 360 No Scope eSport This Aint No Game gameplay But opinions are like assholes, everyones got one. Mines just different than yours.

        • Also, why can't all of these changes simply be done inside Destiny one? Why did we need a sequel to decide to only use two primaries and a heavy now??

          • My personal belief is that Bungie is catering to the PVP lobby. It is a lot less work for them to install maps, then tell Fido and Spot to go kill themselves silly, then it is to create an interesting, fun story.

              • I thought I was the only one who was happy about the changes. Turns out I was wrong. I think Dawnblade needs a little more super time. Enemies aren't actually that much harder to kill, people are just used to using Snipers, Shotties, and Fusion Rifles constantly.

              • What was the level cap for the beta? Do you think your PvE arguments for Destiny will still be valid when you hit level cap and not the restricted beta level?

              • Yes. Loved PvE. Shooting things down with my boring primary. Switching to my second boring primary to eliminate the odd shield along the way. Especially the part where everyone's supers were charged by about the cratered battlefield area. And then by the time you entered past the giant drill. And then lastly by the 2nd/3rd phase of the boss fight. Whole thing took about 15-20 minutes of my life multiple times due to sheer size, not challenge. I highly enjoyed the utter uselessness of my abilities from my utility kit. Made all the classes feel the same except for one having a porta shield, one healing me, and one doing a fancy ballet spin. All that wasted programming space could have given us a new primary exotic to rub one out to. Shame. The scenery was gorgeous. Bungie really outdid themselves. I found myself marveling at the size and sheer scope of what I was exploring. Hadn't been that floored since I stepped in my first raid which was King's Fall. I absolutely loved the way Nessus looked. I look forward to exploring it and the rest of the game. Simply put, the game is beautiful for lack of a better term. I also enjoyed jumping into PvP control. It was so fun in the beginning because nobody cared and everyone was eating candy and having fun. Then SBMM kicked in and the fun really began. I loved shooting at my bullet sponge comrades who honestly I can't believe couldn't defeat Gary with all the shots they can now take. I loved having to hold each other's hand and riddling one single person on the opposite team with bullets because somehow that's strategy. I also enjoyed watching my fellow guardians hog the power ammo and run off confidently to their untimely deaths due to teamshot meta. I enjoyed the utter boring nature of 4v4 Destiny. I can't wait until season 6 starts and I can enjoy some good old fashioned dive meta and hopefully Doomfist will have settled into his spot by then. Made it to gold, hopefully I can manage diamond if I commit to it. Just can't be bothered to try. All in all, Destiny 2 was the lackluster blockbuster I always imagined it would be. I'm glad I preordered. The amount of laughs I'm sure to share with my friends until we're crying was worth the $60. Oh, and that fancy energy weapon too. Amirite?

              • I liked the beta over all. I didn't mind the new weapon system. I didn't care for many of the weapons though. I'm sure there will be better ones in the full game. I am ok (sorta, kinda) with the ammo economy. I do think there are some things that need to be tweaked. COOL-DOWNS!!! for just about everything.. nades, abilities, health are way to long. i found myself hiding a lot. I get that they want to make D2 more team based, more primary gun battles based, but if you find yourself in a 1v2 or 2v3, you are pretty much screwed. I want more primary gun battles to I just dont want to live like a prairie dog either. I don't want D1 issues in D2 but the games feels slower and your constantly waiting on something. HUNTERS.. if they are going to be this weak, just delete the class. being able to dodge or shade step (no blink so far) every 20 or 30 seconds just kills the class( i never timed the cool-down but its long). I did like the triple jump. BTW i did manage to go positive(some vary positive) k/d in about 60% of the pvp games i played with a hunter. it was just way harder that with a titan, D1 i was hunter and am very familiar with the class. right now in D2, hunters are way to soft. Supers need to be available earlier. perhaps the better you play the sooner you get your super? that way you can plan better how to use it. I'm ok with one super per match. maybe 2 if its a longer match for some reason and only if your playing well. other than that..

                    • Seems to me that a lot of the angst has to do with your second bullet point in your edit. People are not following along real well....... We are not the powerhouses of Destiny 1 anymore. Got to build the power back up before we can wreck everything..... I, for one, won't miss the whiners.

I'm glad you enjoyed the Beta, I'm happy for everyone that did. Me personally, it was a beautiful game and will be and I expect nothing less from Bungie they make top notch visual and audio games. That being said the more I think about it the more I hate it. It feels like everything that made me fall in love with Destiny has been removed or throttled. I hate the weapon system, I hate the ammo economy and I hate the abilities or lack thereof.

                          • Making games harder is not the way to go. Adding an optional mode that increases difficulty is one thing, but making the game difficult overall will alienate the majority of gamers who do no live, eat, and breathe all things Destiny. And before the Hardcore Heroes of Destiny pipe in with their "Who care about casuals!?!?!!" routine, realize that the casuals outnumber you. That means more money lost if they choose not to purchase. Bungie knows you will keep buying.

                            • Harder to kill doesn't equal fun for most people. Using a mag or clip to kill one normal enemy just wastes my time and isn't fun to me in anyway. Pve is fun but not as fun as destiny 1 strikes because everything is slower now. The pve may get a lot better since this was just a beta. Pvp is fun because most of the changes were aimed towards pvp so that's fun for pvp.

Don't be a kissass The Beta was boring. 95% of your kills in PvE are from a PRIMARY. Why even have classes?
