The Pulse Rifle, Hand Cannon, and Fusion Rifle are the only weapons that feel right

Thesis in the title, many of the other weapons we have to play with feel pretty bad in terms of usability. I'd say the Auto Rifle and Sidearm probably feel the worst, but I'll get to them. The SMG's are largely ineffective. They're horribly inaccurate, which, to a degree, I was expecting. But unfortunately their damage output within their perceived effective range is terribly lackluster, and using almost any other weapon in this case would be better. I'd say they're one of the worst weapons, if not for the fact that I actually liked the Exotic elemental SMG for its use in PvE. Sure, it's practically just another Zhalo Supercell, but it was still fun to use. Scout Rifles are only outclassed by Pulse Rifles in any significant regard, so their ineptitude largely stems from the fact that the Pulse Rifle has great range, damage, and RoF. I'm not suggesting that the Pulse Rifle is the problem and should be nerfed, I just think that the Scout Rifles require more reliability, although perhaps lowering the effective range of the Pulse Rifles would help that out a bit to properly solidify where each weapon fits in the meta (scout rifles being slightly longer ranged and more controlled and pulse rifles being more mid range focused). Auto Rifles are also pretty inaccurate like the SMG's, although not to a terrible degree. I sort of understand why, but their damage simply isn't enough to make them worth carrying. Whether it be an accuracy or damage change, they need something to make them more viable weapons. The Scathelocke itself isn't in a bad spot, but I can't see myself replacing a Pulse Rifle with it. Sidearms have certainly fallen far from their D1 counterparts. RoF and damage are both abysmal, and I really don't have much of a reason to carry one over any other weapon. Not much else to say other than that they need some type of use in order to fit in D2's new loadout system. Hand Cannons are aight. They're not as good as I was hoping, but they;re reliable enough within close range scenarios to make them worth holding. I would still say that I'd like them to have a bit farther of an effective range, but I can say they still feel better than most of the other weapons in its class. Pulse Rifles are king in the beta. They simply outclass the majority of weapons. That doesn't mean anything is wrong with them per se, because, like I said in the title, they feel right. Other than a possible slight range reduction, I feel like the other weapons need to be buffed/changed more than I feel like the Pulse Rifle needs to be changed. Most of the other weapons are simply annoying and unreliable to use, and I naturally leaned toward the pulse rifle simply because it didn't feel that way (it just so happened that it was also the best choice in the game). The Grenade Launcher are whatever in PvE, and not so good in PvP. I'd suggest that they take the remote detonation route that Reach's GL took (or at least attach proximity detonation to many of them) and up their PvP damage a bit to make them more usable. The Rockets are okay. I'd say that they probably need two instead of one so that it's worth carrying into PvP. I understand that a single rocket is practically at least one free kill, but so is each shotgun shell or each charge of the Fusion Rifle, and the movement options coupled with a abilities and whatnot make the rockets less of a threat than they are in Bungie Halo. The Shotgun feels almost right. I don't really know what to say for this one. Maybe a slight increase in effective range, but I believe it's almost where it need to be. The Sniper was underwhelming. Sure, it's not as grand as the D1 Snipers, and I actually appreciate that, but D2's Sniper just felt kinda wrong in its handling. The stats are fine as far as its damage, ammunition, and RoF, but the handling just felt off. The Fusion Rifle felt good. I was worried that it might not fit the power weapon category when I heard about the new loadout system, but it certainly fits where it is now. I wouldn't suggest nerfing it in the slightest, because it's another case of the other weapons in its class being underwhelming.

  • Fusion rifle was crazy. I got five kills and an assist on one clip with it once. I'd bet my left nut it'll be among the first thing they nerf. Autorifle is decent, I heard. SMG's are barely controllable, though. And scouts seem to tickle rather than kill. I normally main them, but transitioned to a pulse pretty quick this beta.
