But...uhh...well there is no good way of saying it: Horizon Zero Dawn's controls are shit. Seriously, getting Aloy to do what you want is about as easy as sticking your dick inside a boxing glove and then trying to play the flute with it.
I understand that this is Guerrilla's first third person game, but damn is this bitch spastic. And the -blam!-in shooting is dreadfully inaccurate at times (even at point blank range). And I don't know who designed the melee combat but holy shit...god forbid you are even an inch above your enemy, or your swings will just whiff right by.
Oh, and that thing where I press circle to exit my menu and then Aloy just rolls in whatever random direction...no -blam!-in Bueno my friend.
This game easily has the potential to be a 9/10, but the controls are so piss poor I just get frustrated playing it.
I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but I actually appreciate Ubisoft right now. Say what you want about Far Cry, but the controls never got in the way of enjoying the games.

Edited by MISTER TORGUE: 7/27/2017 12:14:10 PMIt's a PS exclusive. Nobody ever mentioned the TERRIBLE controls in Uncharted and TLOU they dont want to admit it. But there is a reason they dont last even a fraction as long as the Xbox exclusives BUT THE STORY BROOOOO!!! go read a book then scrubs
-
Edited by Obscure Meme: 7/31/2017 3:45:37 AMhaven't really played this game but I picked up my brother's PS4 controller for like 30 minutes and it certainly felt different to what I'm used to in a game like that.

That's what happens when you have to manually aim without aim assist or lock ons. You have to actually try to hit your target.
-
Lmao git gud Edit: im actually gonna mute you for even saying anything bad about HZD

Edited by Aldrich: 7/26/2017 3:50:00 AMI said this about The Witcher and practically got burned at the stake... Whatever.
-
Can't say I had any problems with it. No more than any other third person game anyway. Sure there's a few things that are clunky, but let's be fair, we've all thrown ourselves off a tower trying to play assassins creed.

Edited by moist nana: 7/30/2017 10:08:25 AMI'll admit, climbing in this game is so wtf, its just mashing buttons with nfi were your going and suddenly you've scaled a mountain. But on the plus side the bow combat is floorless, lots of roll/sliding take downs, it shines when it comes to that. Melee only realy gets good when you unlock all the takedowns
-
You must be very bad at games if you complain about controls in HzD.
-
I don't remember encountering anything too bad. Melee combat isn't the best, but that's understandable; bow combat is meant to be the focus. I never had too many problems with accuracy, except on Rockbreakers, and Aloy (almost) always did what I wanted her to. Climbing was a pain at times, though.
-
Edited by TommyG: 7/26/2017 4:46:15 PMIf you have this problem, and I don't..is it the game, or is it a YOU problem? I'll give you Melee. The melee combat is lazy. I haven't had any of the other issues though
-
spamming circle is the superior mode of transport
-
Edited by ABeardedViking: 7/27/2017 10:37:09 AMNever had the issue with shooting. Only time I used melee was for a stealth kills so didn't really see an issue there either . I also don't roll either lol 90+ hours and never once got frustrated playing
-
Aloy had a massive head when she was a kid
-
That analogy in the beginning. Beautiful.
-
Careful, the fans of this game don't take criticism well. They act like its the greatest game ever.
-
I agree... I liked the game up until I completed the story and now I'm having a hard time getting back into it....
-
Seriously, getting Aloy to do what you want is about as easy as sticking your dick inside a boxing glove and then trying to play the flute with it.
Quite a colorful set of words there, I'll save this whenever someone asks me to do the impossible.
-
Sounds like a you problem.
-
B-b-but... Muh storeez! Muh grafixz!
-
That's unsurprising to me. Third-person games are often messy in the controls department, which is annoying.
-
Wildlands controls are topnotch as well.
-
They weren't horrid, but they were far from perfection. The gameplay is actually pretty shallow, that's what got me. It's fun for the first 10-20 hours but after that it becomes a drag. Luckily, the game ends just in time so that most people don't really reach that point.
-
Yeah breath of the wild is a far better game
-
Really? The controls and combat were all that kept me playing. I'm one of the few who didn't like the story, of all things
-
The melee combat was an immediate turn off for me. It's so floaty and weird. One of the reasons I couldn't get into it.
