With 8 players it's not a bullet sponge, otherwise it would have take longer to take him down. Not to mention, we are not leveled properly, most guns we have are mid-impact guns and tbh if you would drain his health too fast the scripts for the mechanics could -blam!- up. And the guns we have, I doubt, do maximum damage (150 damage for a Scout?? no way) and we also take a lot of damage.
And while I do agree with you that he can be spongy with 3 players, I'm for one glad that people take that into account for the most time actually.
As an example: It can get frustrating when people give a damn about the Shanks during the Khoviks encounter and you get killed and swarmed by them. Or you strike team spawn constantly blights and ads while fighting Malok, just because they drain the bosses health way too fast. Especially with active burns. And then the same people rage quit because they failed the bounty fir staying alive during a complete strike, lol.
It can even happen during the Beta Strike when Protheon gets physically damaged and enrages during the last phase. Some people simply nonstop shoot him without taking out the last wave of Harpies and normal Goblins. And then you have the fanatics on top of that. Caused a few wipes from my experience.
Anyways. They are going to adress that problem, I hope.
You completely missed the point.
The amount of time it takes to kill him doesn't change that he is a boss encounter who has no mechanics other than "keep shooting him". He's a bullet sponge regardless of how long it takes to down him.
