As she fell onto her stomach, I finished her off, then turned to Keis. "Good work," I complemented, moving next to Welkine's body, "You'll get the hang of it in no time." Welkine revived and sat up. "How come I always get shot?!" He fussed. • • • The three of us stood in Ilya's Ward of Dawn, staring down the opposing team, who were slowly moving closer. "Well, if we step out, they'll shoot us," Ilya observed. "Are they gonna wait for the shield to go down?" I asked, "Or-" The Huntress raised her arm and erupted in flames as a gun made of Solar energy formed in her hand. The Golden Gun, with three shots that would kill us instantly. "Crap..." Ilya groaned. The other team jogged forward, closing the distance between us. "Bail!" Ilya called out. She and Keis ran out the other end of the Bubble, but I stayed where I was. "Welkine, what are you doing?!" Ilya demanded. "Check this out," I answered. Our opponents were just outside the wall of Void Light, preparing to step in, when I leapt forward. Arc energy flowed over my arms as I raised them, then brought them back down on the ground. A Fist of Havoc erupted around me in a sphere of annihilating electricity. I stood, shacking off the lingering sparks. "Was that awesome or what?!" I declared, spreading my arms as I turned to my team. "What," someone answered flatly. I looked over my shoulder, and the Warlock shot me in the face. I fell, dead. "The winner is Alpha," Shaxx announced. I revived, along with the two opponents I had killed. The Warlock propped her scout rifle on her shoulder triumphantly. I mumbled under my breath, "Why do I always get shot?" "Good game, guys," the Titan said as Keis and Ilya returned. "You, too," Ilya replied. "Yup," the Huntress boasted, moving in front of her companions, "But you didn't stand a chance with me playing." I groaned internally. Some Hunters had way too much ego. The Titan hefted his sniper rifle behind the Huntress, indicating his prowess throughout the match. The Warlock wasn't so subtle. "You had the lowest K/D on our team, dummy," she stated half jokingly, "Barely better than the guy who just killed you." "Hey!" The Huntress and I exclaimed simultaneously. "That's enough," the Titan chuckled, "Let's get out of here." The other team dematerialized in swirls of blue as they transmatted into their ships. "We should go, too," Ilya advised, "Don't need Shaxx dropping any matches on us." "I wasn't that bad, was I?" I asked Ilya, lingering on the Warlock's remark. "Uh... you were-" Ilya hesitated, then whispered urgently, "Hae." She suddenly transmatted, leaving me alone with Keis. "Keis?" I pleaded. He gave me a level stare and answered stoically, "You are the fifth best combatant I have ever seen in the Crucible." With that, he transmatted as well. Thinking about what he had said for a moment, I perked up with pride. "The fifth!" I cheered, pumping my fists, "That's awesome!" "Um...... Welkine..." my Ghost started. "Yeah?" I inquired. "Keis has..." he continued, "Only ever seen five people in the Crucible..." My arms sank back down, and I sighed in defeat. "Just transmat me, Ghost," I moaned.
