To be people confused by the American/British options: there's enough differences in the way words are said/spelled/used that "American" can be considered a variation of "British".
Never heard anybody say I speak American or British. Either case you say "I speak English". Rules changes so maybe one day people will say that.
I've heard people say they speak American English whenever they are talking to people outside of the north America.
