D2 - Is less more???

What if Destiny 2, as we know it by what has been revealed, had been out for the last three years, and then was followed up by a game with the features and attributes of Destiny 1? IMAGINE WHAT THE E3 REVEAL WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE: • Yes, you've had fun playing 4 v 4 these last few years, but NOW WE ARE OFFERING LARGER GAMES OF SIXES!!! [crowd roar]. And also more focused games of THREES for the sweaties! [applause and cheers] • We’re introducing a new game that will test the skills of the most sweaty try-hard, it’s called RUMBLE!! [crucible aficionados go wild] • We realize that you are picking up the lore as you play the game, but we know that’s not good enough. So we are introducing GRIMOIRE CARDS to tell layers and layers of deeper lore!!! [lore nerds and “mynameisbyf” wet their pants] • We know you are limited to only two builds per sub-class, and we understand that it just doesn’t allow for enough variety – therefore we are opening up sub-classes to practically unlimited customization!!! [everyone goes insane with glee, imagining all the possibilities] • We’re going to start to explain why these varied, different alien races have all come together at one point and time to vanquish the Traveler and mankind – this unholy collaboration will be called THE DARKNESS!! [lore nerds faint, still soiled from their previous incontinence] Anyway – you get the picture. I think Bungie is trying to tell us that “less is more”, but as of right now, it seems like “less is just less”. Edit - Let's add one more: • We know you love using power weapons; who doesn't? But you better sit down, because we are here to announce that YOU WILL NOW BE ABLE TO ARM BOTH A SPECIAL WEAPON SNIPER AND A HEAVY WEAPON ROCKET LAUNCHER AT THE SAME TIME!!!! [mass, unabated euphoria in the audience; Bungie spokesman drops mic, struts off stage...]

  • The promise was that by simplifying the builds they will provide more content That all of those nodes required lots of additional testing Many updates created wild scenarios like hammers for days unlimited ammo etc

You make a tremendously good point. Bungie is developing in reverse, living backwards, even. When you think about it this way you begin to realize how screwed up they are. Unless, of course, they are planning to offer all the things they took away back to us in future, paid dlc's. nah, they wouldn't do that.

        • Less is never more, even in terms of the grind. Not that I love the grind, but in a loot-shooter, I expect a certain amount of grind in the game, but I ALSO expect that there will be some items in the game that will reduce the grind (This was not true in Y2/Y3). Less firepower is never more fun. EVER.

I'm glad they changed things I hate how we use sniper rifles for everything so boring. Hopefully 4v4 reduces lag makes matchmaking quicker and does not allow dossing etc. Why would races come together to form the darkness? I thought everyone wanted the light for themselves? Cut rumble great only about 10% play it if that.

            • You say less. I say more focused. Nothing wrong with trimming that fat, removing certain things that flat out didn't work and refining other things that worked moderately well but have potential to work even better.

              • I would be excited to see it going to 4v4. 6v6 is a little too impersonal and a little too chaotic for my taste. It also significantly increases the instances of lag.

                  • I can't care less about how PvP is going to be played. Now, dungeons, adventures, strikes, raid and fleshed out story with cut scenes. How is this less? Sorry they put PvE at the front.

Is the Darkness ever built on or even touched in Destiny 1? Alien races that 'follow' it maybe, but not Darkness itself. Subclasses aren't that customisable to begin with and the grimoire debacle was always a joke. At least they're admitting to the faults in Destiny 1 and seem to be making an attempt to not make the same mistakes. A story/plot that doesn't go anywhere and a lack of in-game lore and information dumps. A lot of the 'faults' that seem apparent with each subsequent reveal of D2 are only faults if you focus on the negative aspect, and/or ignore additional information. It is entirely possible that there will be additional modes post-launch. There are plans for a ranking system post-launch, but more crucible modes are a no-go?

This generation is proof that less is more. Quality over quantity. We already have a glut of open world games with cut and paste bases to conquer, mindless fetch quests, and nearly identical enemies. (The Witcher 3 is the rare game this generation that has both quality and quantity.) Destiny-like loot shooters with a high amount of repetition are the next wave of madness. If Bungie can streamline Destiny to take out the filler and make the remaining material better, I am 100% in favor. Streamlining the subclasses is a good move. You see this with many sequels. The first game's skill and inventory system is a total cluster-blam!- and the sequel cleans things up and makes the game more playable. I know there are Guardians who love the inventory management side of the game, but most of us just want to go straight to shooting aliens. Removing grimoire cards is a good move. They are not really removing them from the game, because they were never in the game. Keep the story in the game. Removing The Darkness is a good move. Luke Smith already told us that during all of D1, they had no idea what it was. Rather than hear the Speaker drone on about how he could tell us stories, I would rather enjoy a fully fleshed out story against enemies with actual motivation. Streamlining the weapon system becomes a bit more iffy. I enjoyed the flexibility of mixing primary, secondary, and heavy in D1. I am not convinced that having to choose between a sniper and a sword is a good design choice. We'll see. Streamlining Crucible actually seems like a step backwards. 4v4 only will turn off a good portion of the population, me included. Bungie should have made Crucible better with working vehicle combat and better balancing. My guess is that Crucible is so broken that not even Destiny 2 can fix it.

Destiny 2 will be the same repetitive mess that destiny 1 was. Everyone will burn through the initial content within a few months and then we will have months on end of content droughts while we all repeat the same raid and strikes over and over. If we all have learned something about destiny it's that it's the most repetitive game ever but not in a good or fun way.

sooooooooo true lmfao Good one (BUMP) I have been with bungie since halo ce and loved every bit of it until recently with how d1 is left to end and changes with d2.

                              • I wouldn't agree with all of that, but yes I do agree. Honestly the only thing I am worried about (and actually REALLY -blam!-ING PISSED ABOUT) is the new subclass system. I hope that this changes back to the way that it was before because this new way is awful.

Going off your intro. I don't feel gutting D1 and persenting that half the content in D1 will not be in D2 was a smart move. What makes it worse is knowing they will sell back to you on what you already had and paid for in the 2 expansion as if it's new content. So less is not in any way more knowing how much they actually gutted this game.

                                  • If ya watch the original Destiny gameplay trailer, most of what's "new" in D2 is in it, in terms of gameplay. 2 primaries Exploration A reason to care why you're doing things Fast travel to areas Linear skill tree Exotics without the cryptarch Plus the dinklebot we all wanted
