D2 Loadout needs to be rethought prior to launch

I think this is a huge misstep. Limiting choices to pve players for a pvp problem. - Elemental primaries were not a huge issue. They only helped with a very limited amount of enemies, shielded of the right element. No effect in pvp (currently), no added effect on all other enemies. If this is felt it needs to be corrected make different of the same race have more variety of shield elements for different enemy types. There, done. Elemental primaries are less effective and can be non-exotic and eliminates "energy weapons" which is pointless. - In pve, I dont want to have to pick between a sniper or rocket launcher. I want both! Or shotgun and the new grenade launcher! Shotguns and fusion rifles are going to be done in pve. Use will be way way down. - Keep the current system and just add special drops for individuals (same as proposed with power weapons) in pvp and /or move shotguns, snipers, fusion rifles back to special. Or even let me pick, elemental primary or kinetic sniper/shotgun in the energy slot. A shotgun or fusion rifle shouldnt take up my heavy slot, I want something that blows stuff up. A couple of alternative options that will make pve just as enjoyable as it is currently without limiting player choices.

  • I'd much rather have a scout and auto rifle with a reliable way to kill shields than have a weapon slot go unused much of the time.

  • My biggest issue with weapon loadouts in Destiny stems from PvE and not PvP. Was it annoying having everyone use a sniper/shotgun 24/7 in the crucible...sure, but no where near as bad as what happened to PvE. Realistically, all end game PvE devolved into a "go to point A, snipe/rocket boss; repeat". This is much more limiting. I'll ask you a question: how many nightfalls/raids did you actually bring a fusion rifle into? I'm not talking about messing around with during the opening bit, or the jump puzzle. I mean you spent the majority of the raid or strike with the fusion rifle equipped. Same thing with sidearms. I think Destiny feels best when you are taking advantage of the buttery-smooth shooting system, and moving about the battlefield. Camping with a sniper is safe, but it is boring AF. Bungie tried to fix this: removed the camp spot during Crota...everyone just moved over a little. Remove the camp spots at oracles, confluxes and Templar...new ones found. Relying on a sniper encourages camping. By making "primary weapons" more prevalent, a more mobile play style is encouraged. Additionally, after seeing footage from the inverted spire, it looks like Bungie had designed PvE content with this in mind. Personally, I'm happy AF, as I can now use a HC and SR at the same time.

      • This is actually awesome for pvp, but the ammo economy significantly cripples it. It limits playstyle to passive team shotting. For pve. It's just plain terrible. They basically remove crowd control and dps in favor of choosing one and going with two Mook killers. One that actually provides use, and the other being kinetic. They need a freedom slot for pve to replace the kinetic one. Any Primary, freedom, and "power". Boom perfect game As for pve. Keep it, just do away with power ammo economy

      • In theory you still have the same amount of choices. Which is three. The three however are going to be different than d1. Not sure why so many people cant fathom a world without a rocket AND a sniper. Do you really need both to have fun? I shoot aliens and that is a blast. For me, it doesn't matter which gun my bullets come from. Hope you learn to just have fun without being picky. Then you will never be satisfied.

IMO It's a poor deliberate action that's not going to benefit playing the PvE aspect of this game. Knowing this companies actions this last couple years on stretching out what little content they offered. It shows that they are at it again and stretching out an encounter is not creating a challenge. It's only saying at this point that this company watered down everything and used giving ammo back to try to justify it. It's poor development and it's the easy way out. Nothing new for this company knowing how they call nerfing everything in this game "rotation" Or how about capping year 1 with removing primary Elemental before Ttk was released? What about knowing they didn't have to adjust weapons the same across the entire board and had the option to make other choices but refused to? Yeah, everyone has their conter argument about what I stated to try to justify this companies deliberate poor actions. But most dont have the guts to bring up the fact that instead of always looking for the easy way out. Why not face them challenges so things like Luke Smiths unreasonable logic of throwing characters in the trash might take a better turn. Or how about not forcing a gamer to play the way this company wants them to play? Anyone can look for an excuse on why this game has taken a turn for the worst, but I rarely see gamers that actually really like this game speak up and ask this company to try to face the challenges ahead of them. Most of what I have seen posted from gamers that really like the game is.... It's ok that you remove my abilities. It's ok you are forcing me to have to choose. It's ok that now I'll have less options then I had last 3 years. It's ok this company gutted out half of D1 when creating D2 to sell back to me in the new DLC. It's ok that this company keeps removing things each year that goes by. It's ok that this company is heading back to a Halo stile setting. This isn't Halo and it needs to stop being treated like it is each year that it goes by. The list goes on on how much damage has been done to this game and how much that has been removed because this company is afraid to face the challenges ahead of them.

          •
Limiting choices to pve players for a pvp problem.
Every interview has given reasons why Bungie thinks Freedom Slots are a good idea for PvE. This was, ostensibly, not unilateral for PvP. But yes, rethink the entire inventory system three months out. That'll go fine. /s

            • I think the new weapon system will be really good for both pve and especially for pvp. People are worried about damage but I think that if they just lower the health in enemies than primaries will be fin for damage, just look at the footage for the strike

            • I think it's fine atleast we won't be using sniper for everything in pve which is so boring.

            • i'm half and half on the new weapon system. i think with sniper rifles being forced into the same category as rocket launchers seems like an attempt to avoid a crucible dominated by sniper rifles, same for shotguns. now with the reveal of linear fusion rifles, i think regular fusion rifles should be placed in the energy weapon slot since linear fusion rifles are basically a second sniper rifle category. i think sidearms should have been removed entirely just because they went ahead and nerfed sticky grenades why not do something to sidearms? but on the other hand i think the restructured weapon system will be a bit difficult to balance in the future, but thats only if blanket nerfing will affect the energy weapons as well as kinetic which i have no doubt it will.

            • i think its great. Two primaries essentially? hell yea. Im ready to roll two scouts for some boss killing dps, or a scout and an auto for close and far range optimization. Primaries are the most used weapon type anyway. Having essentially two is going to be fan freaking tastic if you ask me. Also, is it that hard to change from a sniper to a rocket in pve? I mean seriously, how many people consistently use their rockets now in pve unless they are at a boss or dicking around? 90% of people save their heavies for bosses as is. Use your sniper for the mission or the strike, and then switch to your rockets when you get to the boss, problem solved. Use a scout rifle in one of the two primary slots, and use whatever the hell you want as the other one. I really think everyone is over reacting to this. To me, two primaries will be far more effective than one primary, a sniper, and rockets.

              • but your comparing a new game to the old? just wait, adjust your strategy and enjoy. embrace the fresh start and maybe youll see that the loadout system is there as intended, and will work well with the new game

              • They should make the stupid weapon loadout system PvP only and let PvE players keep their power.

              • I agree. IMO, even with proper scaling, there is just something that is much less fun/exciting about taking two primaries into PVE (unless I'm dual-wielding them). The new loadout system will never get close to replicating that. Now I understand why it was necessary for PVP, but PVE should not start the game already making a compromise for the sake of PVP. Put PVE and PVP on equal footing by separating their loadout restrictions. Then keep them on equal footing by separating PVE and PVP balance.

                • You can't really say any of this until you play the game.... You have no idea how these changes effect PVE, if at all. More than likely the encounters will be balanced according to the changes. With that, I don't like the direction PVP is going. I prefer fast paced gameplay.

                    • They could add a quick swap, between 2 or more weapons in the same slot in pve only. If you didnt lose too much/any ammo it would be a simple fix.

                    • I think with the rework with the weapons and from what i can tell a rework on the encounters I think the reduction in power in pve will work better because you will rely less on special and heavy weapons to win a dps race. I would like to imagine Atheon where he didn't shoot a 48 burst grenade launcher constantly and instead of having to avoid being shot at all you could afford to be hit a bit while you land shots. I would like to see a holy trinity style come into play a bit and the game would be better for imo.

                      • It's far too late, this is happening. It's been shown to the public in motion, we've been play-testing it in D1 Crucible for months, and the release is just around the corner; they are polishing brass and swatting bugs at this point. I don't know how familiar you are with the Software Development Life Cycle, but it's insane to think they would be changing this so close to launch and beta. I am not without my reservations about the effects in PvE, but this is 100% happening, at this point.
