Strength of the Pack S3 Ch. 16: Second Chances(?)

I slowly turned around, to see another warlock. This one was wearing a forest green overcoat, and tightly gripping a large staff. I was too exhausted, so running was no longer an option. I unholstered my Ace of Spades and aimed at the warlock's head! "I... don't want to hurt you... but I will defend myself!" I exclaimed. "You're the rogue, aren't you?" The male warlock asked as he slowly approached me. "Don't get any closer! I will shoot! I will!" I yelled before pulling back the hammer of my cannon. I began backing out of the door, and stepped back onto the street. "Just shut it, kid. I've fought way worse than you..." The warlock said as he twirled his staff around. The world got quite dark all of the sudden. That was odd, I didn't remember there being many clouds today. I glanced down and saw the shadow of massive wings crossing the ground. I looked up to see the silhouette of something flying overhead! That thing dropped to the ground behind me, and soon her wings retracted into her jetpack. "Stay the h*** back!" I shouted as I waved the Ace toward the other Guardian. "You're the murderer we've heard about. Hunter with SIVA augmentations... So, why are you scared to shoot?..." The titaness asked. "I'm not a murderer!" I shouted back. "So, why have you been running?" The titaness took a step forward before I stiffened my gun-hand. "I've been framed! Now, I can't get close to anyone without risking lives!" I replied. Despite how hard I tried, I couldn't keep my arm from shaking. I couldn't do this, but I couldn't let my guard down. "So, you're not the murderer," the titaness said as she fumbled with her fingers. "Does... holding a gun to me prove that?..." My arm buckled, but only slightly. "I will defend myself if I must," I replied. "I can't let you take me in," "We're not taking you in," the titaness said, almost reassuringly. This was a trick; I turned back to the warlock, who was standing with his arms crossed. "Are you not... City Guard?" I asked as I looked back at the titaness. "Ha! Not as the Vanguard would like us to be," the titaness replied. "We've been marked as 'vigilantes'. We protect the City our own way, but the Commander isn't too fond of us," the warlock added. I kept switching between the titaness and the warlock. "If you're not here to arrest or kill me, why are you here?" I asked. "Hey!" The warlock said as he raised a finger at me. "For one, you walked into our base," "Because we believe you," the titaness stated. "We tried to get to the house that exploded, but you were already there. We saw you fighting the SIVA, and we watched as the SIVA killed the man," the titaness replied. I slowly slid my hand cannon into the holster, then crossed my arms. "So, now what? Gonna let me go?" "Well, it seems you have a decision to make," the warlock said as he stepped up beside me. "You can run; run from the Vanguard, run from everything... Or you can do something worthwhile..." "Like?..." I asked as I faced the warlock. The warlock walked to stand beside the titaness, I guess so I could face both of them at the same time. "This City is always gonna need Protectors, and now with the SIVA, danger is only gonna escalate. We could use a 'rogue', like you--" "Let me guess, since I--" I raised my SIVA arms up. "--supposedly know a thing or two about SIVA?..." The warlock shifted to the titaness before turning back to me. "I was going to say since you're an outcast like us... But, yeah, that works too... I suppose..." I held my hand up, letting them know I heard what they had to say. "I see what you're doin', but I'm no hero. I try to save whoever I can, but that's not who I am..." I dropped my head down in shame. "Not anymore. I have a mission, and that mission is going straight to the source of the problem. Vanessa! I'm going straight back to her hidey-hole... and I'm gonna kill her!... Or die trying..." "Well, how?" The titaness inquired. "You have no team, no support. No one to trust, to trust you!" She seemed almost to pity me. "Yes, but there is another thing I don't have..." I started. The two Guardians waited for what I had to say. "I have nothing to lose!" I began to walk away from the two. "So that's it?!" The warlock shouted. "You're just gonna 'lone wolf' it and hope you make it out alive?" I stopped, then turned my head back slightly. "That's exactly what I plan to do..." I disappeared in the shadows of an alleyway, and rushed back for the Wall.
