Timeless Ch. 7: The Concordat

"I take it, this is your... partner?" Lysander asked as he walked around the titan, then to the warlock. "My name is Lysander. And you are?" "Lafayette," the warlock replied. Even for a Voidwalker, fire shown in his eyes. "Uncuff these men!" Lysander ordered. "They are business partners," he continued. The two thugs unlocked the cuffs on Kendrick's and Lafayette's wrists. "Thank you, Lysander," Kendrick said as he rotated his wrists. He and Lafayette shared looks; the latter of anger. "I believe you have our team ready? Sooner the better, right?" Lysander had a dry, bland smile. "Since you two will be leading this Raid, I decided to let you pick your team. My best are waiting for you. Please, follow me," Lysander replied as he turned and walked ahead of the two Guardians. The team entered a rather small base in the back of the camp. More members of the exiled faction were inside and eating. Kendrick and Lafayette looked around the base and took in all the unsettling sights. These people tried to overthrow the Concensus, and here they were amongst them. Lysander pushed open two large doors that led to a massive courtyard in the back of the base. The man stood to the side and let the Guardians see for themselves: warriors of all forms were fighting each other. "All right! Let's do this," Kendrick said as he punched his right fist into his left hand. "I leave them in your very capable hands, Mr. Frost," Lysander said as he backed into the base and shut the doors. "Yeah, Kendrick..." Lafayette said as he crossed his arms tightly and stood with his feet far apart. "Let's see if you have what it takes..." the warlock was beyond furious, but he tried to hide it. Kendrick looked to his friend, coughed in his helmet, then looked to the battlefield. "Listen up!!" He shouted loudly and with authority. Everyone turned to the gold plated titan. They all got in a line and threw towels around their necks. "My name is Kendrick Frost," declared the titan as he walked past the line of recruits. "Some of you may've heard of me, some of you have not! I'm looking for the top four of you, to join my partner and I on a Raid into a Vex stronghold!" "No offense, Goldie, but the Vault of Glass has already been conquered!" A Guardian said as he shrugged his shoulders. Kendrick turned to the hunter sitting on a box. "Does that mean we're off the hook?..." he asked sarcastically. Kendrick gave a smile behind his helmet, then walked down the stairs and over to the hunter. "Stand up, son," he said. Kendrick watched as the hunter pushed himself to his feet. "What's your name?" "Shark-3," the Guardian answered. "And before you ask, yes, I'm an exo..." "Shark, huh? Odd name... Don't sharks hate to have stuff hit their face?" Kendrick asked as he locked his hands behind his back. "I suppose so, I don't know! It's just a terrifying na--" Before the hunter could finish, Kendrick threw a mean cross that launched the Guardian a good two feet back. "For the next few days, or until I find my four members, I am your commanding officer! I expect you to treat me as such... or you'll all be on your a** like Shark! Do I make myself clear?" No one said a word. "DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR?!" Kendrick shouted. "Yes, Sir!" Everyone yelled in reply. "That's better!" Kendrick walked down the line of Guardians. He looked over where Lafayette was standing, but the warlock had just stepped through the door. "I want to see all of y'all back to training!" The titan ordered. A titan held his hand out for Shark, then pulled him back to his feet. The exo scorned Kendrick and felt his metal jaw. Kendrick jumped through the door and chased after his Awoken friend. "Lauffe!" He yelled as he grabbed the man's arm and spun him around. Lafayette quickly yanked his arm free. "What? What's on your mind?" Kendrick looked around at the people in the halls. He walked Lafayette down another hall and looked around again. This one was clear. "Lauffe, I know you're pissed. I'm sorry, I should've told you... Look, I'm not affiliated with these guys, I never was. I just came to them for the team..." "Ken, these guys want nothing but to rule the City with an iron fist! And with whatever is down there on Venus, they'll be able to do just that!" "Lauffe, I won't let them take anything from that place... I just need them to get me in. But I need your help!" Kendrick exclaimed, quietly. Lafayette shook his head. "I've gone to h*** and back with you, Kendrick. But, the Concordat is something else..." the warlock began to slowly walk away. "I'm not doing this. I'm not helping you with this one... You're on your own, Frost..." Kendrick watched as his friend walked down the hall, leaving him. His eyes were shifting in every which way as he thought about what all had happened, but his Snowglare Helm hid this. Knowing there was nothing he could say to change Lafayette's mind, Kendrick pushed open the doors to the sparring arena. The sun shot into his eyes, but his helmet dimmed the brightness as the titan was eaten by the light.
