Protectors of Light Ch. 8 pt. 2: A Walk in the City

Merlin flew up to one of the other two criminals and began waving his wand around. "Fiat tibi et abierunt!" The little ghost shouted. The crook stared at Merlin like he was an idiot. The ghost looked at his magic wand... then wacked the man on the head with it. "Ow! You little s***!" The man said as he covered his head. He swatted his hand around, trying to catch the ghost. However, he snagged Merlin's blue wizard hat instead. "Uh oh..." Logan gasped. Merlin looked at the crinkled up hat, then looked the man dead in the eyes. He looked back at the hat, then stared angrily at the man. "No one... touches... THE HAT!!" The ghost exploded into a fury of attacks, smacking the man with the 'magic wand' time and time again! His shell became flying projectiles that struck the thug several times. Cuts and gashes seemed to magically appear on the man's arms and face. It was quite terrifying to watch. The two conscious men finally ran away, leaving the two Guardians with the unconscious thug, and the robbed victim. Merlin began to calm down, breathing deeply. "Yup..." Logan said as he placed his staff on his back. Angel turned to the young man laying on the concrete, and held out her hand. The man raised his head up, then took the titaness' hand. She pulled him to his feet. "Are you okay, Sir?" Angel asked. "Yes, nothing that won't heal... Thank you for that," the young man said. "It's what we do," the threateningly ominous warlock replied. "I'm Ryan, by the way," the man said to Angel with a smile. Logan shifted slightly. "Angel," the titaness replied. "Angel? That's a beautiful name," Ryan added. The titaness blushed under her helmet. "Yes!" Logan said, rather loudly. "My girlfriend has a very lovely name..." The warlock added in a menacing voice. Angel shot Logan a look through her helmet. "Oh!" Ryan waved fingers at the two Guardians. "I... I didn't realize. I'm sorry... Thank you, again, for getting those crooks off of me..." the man began limping to the building across the street. The titaness watched the man walk away, then turned back to the warlock. "What was that?" Logan crossed his arms. "What? He was tryin' to hit on you," "You could've been a bit more subtle. I was going to tell him I have a boyfriend," "Oh, is that when I'm supposed to tap him on the shoulder and wave?..." Logan replied with a sarcastic tone. "Can I say something?" Alice asked. "Look, Logan, I wasn't going to agree to anything. I was just going to hear what he had to say. But I was going to tell him you're my boyfriend," Angel rebuked. "I'd like to point something out..." Alice tried to interupt. "I just don't think you should give someone even a chance," Logan said. "I think you two'd like to hear this!" Alice exclaimed. "What? Did you not take your chances with someone else?" Angel asked. "No!" Logan shouted. Tears welled up in his eyes as he remembered his past two months of life, but his helmet hid that. "I did not! For two months, I hoped the Traveler would bring you back! For two months, I tore myself apart because I was left to wander this world without you! After a while, I tried to kill myself so I could see you again! But every time, Merlin revived me!" This hit Angel like a bat. Her mouth hung open, but she was speechless. "I even contemplated destroying my own ghost... if it meant I would stop being revived..." Logan continued in a broken voice. Alice turned to the ghost beside her, equally as stunned. Angel felt weak all over. Logan walked over to her and held her tight. Angel willed away her helmet and began crying. "If you did that... You would've been dead... when I was revived!" She screamed. "Pardon me," Merlin said politely. "What, Merlin?" Logan asked sourly. "I, think, I understand that this is a sensitive moment, but... Alice wants to say something!" Merlin flew out of the way of the small, glowing ghost. Alice, shocked, snapped to Merlin. "This... isn't the best time!..." She shouted in a teary voice. "Alice, are you crying?" Angel asked as she wiped tears out of her eyes. "I don't wanna be..." Alice replied with a weak voice. The ghost blinked a few times, as if to hide tears. Merlin awkwardly looked to the three crying people. "What's... going on?..." Logan sighed. "It's an emotional breakdown, Merlin... I don't believe you have ever experienced one before..." A holographic list appeared in front of Merlin. He carefully read through the unreadable words. "Curses... I don't have any spells for that..." he whispered, not so quietly. Angel sputtered out a laugh. "So, what were you wanting to say, Alice?" The titaness asked. "Oh, right!" Merlin exclaimed. "After you, my lady," he continued with a bow. "Don't, ever call me that," Alice demanded. The ghost flew up and faced the Guardians. "When I revived Angel, she went on and on... and on, about how she was this destined champion that would vanquish evil. Well, do you two realize that you have started down that path by protecting that helpless man? Sure, it was a small step, but a step nonetheless. Last night, I looked at some old comic books... Some of the best superheroes started off with small victories. Angel, Logan, you two are the starts of superheroes!" Angel lifted her head off of Logan's chest, then looked him in the eyes. "Wow... We are on our way to being heroes!" "We are!" Logan confirmed. "I suppose your dreams are coming true," he said as he hugged Angel tightly. "It's time that you two make a name for yourselves. Do what you do best: protect!" Alice said with a smile.
