PS4 Pro - Worth it?

Hi everyone, I'm a longtime Xbox owner, and I've been toying with the idea of getting a PS4 Pro lately. It seems like a good console, and it'll let me play Destiny 2 with a bigger community, as well as titles like Nier: Automata. In the event that I buy a Pro, I'll probably stop paying for Gold on my Xbox, because Destiny is the only online game that I play anymore. I currently am in the process of tentatively buying a "like new" Pro from someone for $340 (all cables, two controllers, and shadow of mordor included), and I started feeling like maybe I was making a mistake. Do you think it's worth it to buy a Pro at this point?

  • If you have a 4K TV or looking to invest in one I'd say get one. If you have a HDTV I'd say maybe? If you like having some games run at 50-60fps you'll like it but if you don't care about FPS there's really no point. But at the end of the day it's up to you but I'll say one thing. Don't get Scorpio when it's released.

  • Get a PS3 instead it offers better exclusives than the 4

  • Oh god I can see it now. Xbone players are holding us Scorpio users back. Get off your old systems you poor -blam!-s and get a system that doesn't prevent us from getting more inventory spaces. Yep. That'll be the forums here in the next year.

  • If you don't have a PS4, yeah. If you're thinking of upgrading to the Pro, no, it's not really worth it.

  • If you're looking for a good console to play 3rd party games (like Destiny) then nothing will beat the Scorpio. If you want the best console for PS exclusives then it's the pro, obviously. I would say no, since you were talking about wanting Destiny 2. Xbox not only has built in LFG and clubs that come in super handy with Destiny but the Scorpio will run Destiny better than the Pro.

Yea if you don't have a PS definitely get the Pro. PS has the exclusivity rights to Destiny2 so thats a win. Scorpio and Pro versions will run the same (whether that's got anything to do with Sony deals, is anyone's guess) so that's a win. Its mysteriously been optimized for "the next playstation" again, anyone's guess, but these 2 companys do have a track record of running together.
because Destiny is the only online game that I play anymore.
Then, the answer is Yes. 1. Right now Scorpio is still "vaporware". Microsoft hasn't announced a price, and there hasn't been time to see if it will sell well enough to have any significant impact on the console market. 2. Right now Sony is crushing MS in the console market in terms of sales and exclusive games. So you'll get the chance to play the best games, with the biggest communities right now. Plus some of the Sony exclusive games-----like Horizon Zero Dawn---are awesome games. 3. The PS4 pro is the better of the two PS4 consoles right now. Not only does it have the horse power to render games in upscaled 4k if you have a 4k TV (don't listen to the "oh it has to be native 4k" detractors...the vast majority of 4k content right now is upscaled...and the shit looks AMAZING.) 4. Even if you don't have a 4K TV you'll find the PS4 Pro to be a noticeable improvement over your XB1 (and PS4). If you have the S, you'll find the greater power will allow the machine to render higher quality 1080p images, and run resource-hungry games at more stable frame rate. If you're coming from the original XB1, you're going to find the Pro to be a MAJOR improvement. You'll find that multi-platform games will run smoother, will be more stable, and at higher resolutions at a given frame rate. Everyone's talking about the Scorpio. But the Scorpio is really a late-game Hail Mary pass on the part of MS to try to overcome Sony's dominance at this point in this console generation. The only thing I'd be wary of at this point, is PS VR. Sony really botched the roll out of its VR...and the VR units really don't play well with a number of TV types. Including some of Sony's own products. I'd stay away from their VR until they iron those problems out...and they have been VERY slow to do this.

Ill say this much, if you don't already have a ps4 and are thinking about taking the plunge, yes get the Pro over standard ps4. There's no reason no to as the old versions are on their way out. Its better to future proof yourself. I'd say the same for those who are thinking of checking out what the xbox side has to offer. Unless you already own a xbo, then you should consider the scorpio (as long as the price isn't 500$+). So again, if you are considering plunging into the playstation side, yes I recommend the Pro over standard. Here are some exclusives to consider checking out if you do decide to get a playstation. They are already out, and most of them you can now find on sale, or discounted on the ps store. -Ratchet and Clank -The Last of Us -Uncharted Collection -Uncharted 4 -Bloodborn -Nioh -Nier Automata -Persona 5 -Rezogun -Disgaea 5 -FFXIV(mmo also cross platform with PC) -No Mans Sky (now with the updates its received, it is worth checking out, also its cheap) -Yakuza 0 -Horizon ZD Just some off the top of my head, there are many more, but its 2am now and I'm dozing off lol. Hope it helps make your decision.
Had to edit to add Horizon. No way I could make a recommendation list and not have it on there. Shame on me for letting it slip :(

Also added dashes because I'm a perfectionist and probably got undiagnosed OCD.
• Wait until E3 and see what Sony and microsoft say about possible new consoles then make your decision. Not worth getting a PS4 pro or Scorpio until you get a 4K monitor or tv to play it on. 4K tvs aren't overly expensive either though I bought a 50" for $1000

          • If Destiny is your main selling point you may want to wait. It's been confirmed the PS pro will run at 30fps because it isn't strong enough but it's possible the Scorpio will be able to. Ps does get exclusivity tho I'm just gonna stick with my regular Xbox one

Kind of, but to fully enjoy the experience, you need a 4K TV

            • Definitely check your TV specs before choosing. I'm holding out on a pro or Scorpio until I can pick up a fair priced 4K TV.

            • With the new rumors that a new ps will be announced/launched in 2018, I don't think it is worth it. Then again its just a rumor.

If you plan on sticking with consoles and have a TV that has UHD/4k, can do HDR, and above 2160 in resolution, then the Pro is worth it. If you have a 1080 TV without the other stuff, then the only thing you might get is better performance (depending on if the game is patched for the Pro, or if Boost mode (which must be activated in the settings) works well with that non Pro patched game.) I bought the Pro when it came out in November, and it was before i upgraded to a way better TV. I only got it in january, due to a sale for Boxing week. There is definitely a difference when a game has HDR support and can do 4k. Horizon zero dawn is amazing on this TV, you can see individual hairs on people or threads on armour, while it looks worse on lower resolutions without The special features. For me, it was worth it, upgrading from a launch ps4 to a faster, larger in storage, newer ps4 was good. Since this will most likely be my last console purchase before going to PC, it was worth the upgrade. If this is your first ps4, the go with the Pro. If you have a good tv, go with the Pro. But do not expect an amazing upgrade. While things are pretty good, every patched game is not near amazing high end pc levels.

              • If you don't already own a PS4 and you're going to play a lot of games then I'd say pony up the extra $100 and go Pro. If you have a PS4 already it's just not worth the price to upgrade.

              • At that price I would say sure, but it's honestly not worth that much more than the slim imo. I traded my base PS4 in towards a pro and I mostly regret it. The improvements are there(usually, not always) but they aren't that drastic.

              • If you have a PS4 already? No. There isn't much reason to not buy the Pro if you don't have a PS4 since it is more powerful, but not enough to warrant someone who already has a standard edition to buy another console.

              • Why are you making the change? The pro is the better machine compared to the ps4 slim but if you don't have a 4K tv it's just a somewhat faster console
