there was a mission on the moon i forget which where the hive had acquired a shard of the traveler to poison it using magic. still any light that a shard contains may very well be seperate from the main body and not subject to any shared conditions.

Technically, Ulan-Tan stated that all light is connected. That's why in that mission you noted the Hive are trying to poison the shard, so they can poison the traveler.
