A solo player's path to Destiny 2

Greetings Guardians! A solo player here, with nearly 1,500 hours into the game. I am the typical, middle-aged, casual gamer who spends a couple of hours at the end of the day to relax from work and blow off some steam shooting aliens... Most of the time spent into patrols, story missions, strikes, public events and the Crucible (especially Iron banner). I have very little experience with raids. And there was a very short period of time while I was a member of a group and did stuff with other people (except for the matchmaking of course, which I do all the time). So, here's what I like about Destiny 2: There will be more stuff for a player like me. More areas to explore, more missions to play on my own, more public events where I can participate (knowing their location on the map), more story to be revealed in-game, more chances for random encounters with strangers which I really enjoy, and a more challenging PVP. And more shooting, based on the same unprecedented shooting mechanics and awesome gun play we've all known and loved in Destiny 1 with new guns and abilities. And maybe, just maybe, I'll have a chance to find some people to play with through this new, in-game Clan-finding option, although I don't care too much about this - but it's a nice-to-have-option. So, yeah, if you are a solo player too, I think that Destiny 2 will have you pretty much covered.

  • I'm curious to know more about things like Adventures and Lost Sectors. But my fear is that these things will be a one and done type thing. You'll complete them once when you are first working through the game but will lost all incentive to do them once you've hit the level cap and are grinding towards max Light. Will these activities continue to provide relevant rewards or will they just be a two-minute diversion on patrol that gives you something you immediately dismantle? Will we be able to hit max Light without raiding or will it be like Year One all over again?

  • Your story is nearly identical to mine. I'm on a hiatus right now, but I'll be back strong when D2 drops. Solo all the way, the elitist raiders and trials players really spoil those activities.

I'm a semi solo player too and I agree for the most part with your post but there is no excuse that you can't find people to play with. That made me cringe. I quit destiny a long time ago but I never had trouble going into the recruitment forums and finding people to raid with. That includes trials. D2 will provide convenience to find people faster, but personally, i don't think I was ever limited because i couldn't find people to raid with. Raid content was always available, just needed a little effort to reach out to people.

Being a solo player in D2 won't be any different than D1. If you're lucky you can get with a group that isn't made up of cheats, potheads, or jerks and get some stuff done. They're still not going to get over 50 percent of pve people to do raids. The issue with getting people to raid goes way beyond just matching them with teams and I guarantee the new clan system will be as shitty as using an LFG with odd requirements. My main issue is I hate interacting with people so even with a mic you're not going to hear much from me.

    • Not to be this guy but during the clan lfg doesn't work were the clan can look at the player and their stats before inviting them into the group it will drop short and nobody will use it.

      • I just hate talking to people, my days of chatting on the mic are done. I just want to play and not have to listen to someone 16 years younger then me screaming and yapping away.

You don't have to be a solo player. There are plenty of clans that would welcome you in. My clan The Speakers Secret Stash in particular welcomes guardians of all ages and experience and helps people through end game content. We consider ourselves a mature and chilled clan that has real community spirit. My point is, why not try out clans it could be the best thing you ever do in Destiny

          • I can promise you something. Guided games is going to completely fail with trials. It just going to turn into lfg.

            • Always found it hilarious that people complain about having to go to the forum or app to find a fireteam, but have no problem coming to the same forum to complain about it....

              • Also ....... 4 v 4 has less chance to get pub stomped by 6 dudes on a mic. I rather face 4 in a team then 6 freaking dudes against all solo randoms lol 😂

                • I'm glad bungie is introducing clan support and guided games for players especially for solo players. That way solo players won't take the social out of Destiny 2. It already been done in Destiny 1 and it's a shït show imo.

                • I agree. Great to see the social stuff being added into the game. So when people stop playing, players can be found.

                • I wholeheartedly agree! I was watching the live D2 gameplay reveal and when they said that there would be in-game matchmaking to help out solo players I literally started clapping my hands and shouting. I even surprised myself when I did it. You see, I am a 55 year-old Disabled Veteran who has played primarily solo since the beta version of Destiny due to not wanting to hold back the younger, more healthy players. I have over 4600 hours in this game though and sometimes I get really lonely and wish that I had people to play with. So to me, this was/is fantastic news! Thank you for this post! Agreed. I've looked over some of the responses here, and I just want to make a blanket statement that might be news to a lot of people: Destiny is a game. I enjoy it and use it to have fun and relax, but I don't live and breathe it. I'm very causal with my gaming, and I have a great time solo. I've played in raid groups and Osiris teams - it's a lot of fun, but I primarily just wanted to play the content. I definitely don't have the time to be there consistently for a "set raid group" - my life is too sporadic for that. Perhaps it's just me; I'm not sure if I hold gaming to such a level that others do on these forums.

                  • I'm thinking you solo players might be on to something. I have quite a few raid completions and honestly the problem with them is the people . Lots of flaky people. Lots of weird personalities. I'm like you and that I just want to sign on and relax and turn off my mind. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to me to say okay we are going to raid every Wednesday at 6 p.m. . If you can't make it let the other people know. that's really all it takes and a lot of people have problems with doing that.

                  • An unfortunate quirk of mine and the other half's is that we seem to have to know and work well with those we raid with. I've used lfg a few times and that's been made abundantly clear. So we made a clan to find friends we can raid with whenever we all have time, plus doing whatever else. If you or anyone else is wanting to have a bit of a relaxed giggle on psn, just message me or friend me. Like I said, I don't have much experience at all in raids but would love to learn and then help others. 😉

                  • i played with my bro for the first month but then he quit destiny so ive been solo for all this time basically, only finding a temporary raid group ever now and then. it'll most likely be the same if i do decide to get destiny 2. but ya, i think i might be stoked to play the game, maybe wait a week after release to hear the reviews
