This guy was arguing with me yesterday saying Its just like real life football......XD WHAT!!!
I asked a forum friend the same thing, now I'm asking you guys. I was taking too this hardcore Overwatch guy at work yesterday and he almost broke down crying (not really, he did get pissed tho lol) because I said football, basketball, ect are real sports and eSports aren't.....because they aren't. Are eSports a job....idk.
Edit: How are they real sports if you say yes? Please explain. I can name 70 real athletes, but not one esport gamer. But thats just me.
I don't follows sports, not a hardcore sports fan but I dabble
Edit: video, He makes perfect sense
Edit: no/XD for the win
Edit: Alright Esport fans, dont get triggered, If you think it is and enjoy it who care what me or anyone else thinks. I was just trying too see where everyone's head was, no big deal. Those guys get paid too do that stuff and I didn't know that. Watch, Destiny 2's pvp will become an esport.

This is the main definition of a sport.
1. an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.
Technically, gaming counts. Well, pvp would anyway. Pve is more akin to watching a movie.
-
No not really. But Esports are more entertaining to watch then a bunch of overpaid and overgrown fools throw a ball back and forth lmao.
-
nope it just gives the obese kids a reason to feel special
-
If poker is a sport, then yes.
-
This shouldn't even be a poll. You're taking people's opinions when the dictionary clearly defines the word sport, which would include gaming. Even Joe blow playing pvp on his couch is engaging in sport.

Edited by The Researcher: 5/23/2017 7:14:14 AMIt has many aspects of other sports. Teamwork, strategy, rules, whatever. It doesn't have as much physical work though, but you can still get an injury if you're using your whole hand to use the mouse, not just the wrist. In my opinion it passes as a sport, especially since beerpong is a sport.
-
Definitions aside, most people think of a 'sport' as a physical activity. Gaming is more mental than anything. If you can be successful and make a ton of money doing it, good on you. But it's not a sport nor does it belong in the Olympics.

Watch the DotA 2 Ti3 championship, game 7. There are parts in that game where players perform actions with only a fraction of a second to react. Esports require a sharp mind that can perform hundreds of actions and make decisions very quickly. However if we can't classify video games as a sport than we can't classify chess as a sport or poker.
-
Esports is a competition not a sport lol.
-
didn't peekaboo streak get mad at a bunch of guys winning an x-games medal for playing Halo
-
There are aspects that make it sorta sporty, but none of that has to do with stuff like athleticism though. It's just a crafty term they coined. With that being said, they tried to make it have more sports types of aspects. Teams competing Sports jerseys for their teams Attempting to have good sportsmanship and conduct Coaches for the teams. Obviously it isn't a sport. Which is why they call it an Esport. If you gather all those teams into a thumbwar contest tho, well then you'd have a real sport.
-
No it's not a sport. It's an ESport. *Sigh*
-
I'd say it's not a sport, but it's still a form of entertainment, hence the name eSport, because if they were the same, eSports would just be called "sports"
-
No it is not an actual sport.
-
Edited by pValue2010: 5/26/2017 5:34:49 PMCompetition doesn't automatically equivocate something to a sport. Otherwise, I'm playing a sport when I go to work and help outperform against our banking competitors. I don't wear a jersey to work, last I checked.
-
Maybe I grew up in a different era but I do not consider e sports to be a thing. It's not a real sport in my opinion :)
-
I have this argument with my 13 year old brother all the time. Imo esports are not a real sport, a sport is something where you use energy to do something physical like throw/kick a ball, esports are something where you just sit on your ass and press buttons on a controller or keyboard. If esports were a real sport then people like me who have been playing video games our entire lives would be champions.
-
I consider it a sport. People play Golf as a sport. Gaming can definitely be a sport.
-
If driving a car at high speeds is a sport, there's no reason why games like LoL and Overwstch can't be considered sports as well
-
No. All sports are games. Not all games are sports.
-
For mouth breathers maybe?
-
They're in the same class as chess, which considered a sport.
-
Well if golf, racing and chess are sports....
-
I used to think no, but then I tried playing Fox competitively in Melee and now my hands and wrists burn like a Flaming Moe and this is clearly at least more of a sport than golf.
-
I've been thinking about this since i last posted im here blank amount of days ago. Sports often involve teamwork (which can require a lot of things) and ones own skills (physical, mental and shit). Video games often involve teamwork, and ones own skill as well. I think eSports can be considered a sport (I'm not switching from my No XD) because yes, it typically does involve teamwork and ones own skill. You need to communicate and coordinate with your team if you wanna win. You need to be in a good mental state if you wanna dominate. Being in a good physical state can also help you as well. Also, Gordon Hayward, superstar SF of the Utah Jazz thinks eSports are a sport. The man makes millions in the NBA, even then more and more athletes are starting to consider it a sport. That's my quick take on it though.

I don't even consider bowling a sport (and I've been part of bowling team) so, no.
