I don't think an in game lfg will solve much. The majority of people who aren't raiding aren't doing so because they don't have experience, not because they don't feel like taking out their phone or laptop to find a group. There are not enough people willing to run with noobs in this community. It's been this way for years which is why the number of people who have completed a raid has always been ridiculously low. Sure there are kind people who sherpa and are willing to run with compete noobs, but they are the minority in my experience. I'm in no way saying that it's wrong to not want to sherpa, I get that most people just want to get it done which is perfectly understandable. But what this does is it alienates a lot of people from ever getting to practice and gain experience in raids. Right now, there is no real way to get experience outside of watching videos or lying your ass off and saying you have experience and being a pain in the ass for everyone on your team lol. Optional matchmaking would allow more people to get into raids and actually get to practice and apply the mechanics they've watched on YouTube with other noobs like them. Even if the matchmade team doesn't beat the raid, they still will gain valuable experience. Eventually they'd beat it, raids really aren't all that difficult honestly. The noobs could practice and get better while the people who don't want noobs cab simply ignore the matchmaking and grab groups off of lfg like they've been doing. Either way though, you'll find noobs, so it's kind of silly when people act as if incompetent players and noobs don't exist in lfg and would only exist in matchmaking. If anything, optional matchmaking would decrease the number of noobs on lfg because they'd have a better option for finding players. In the end, there would be way more experienced players because everyone would be able to practice consistently and get better. Not only would the competency of players in optional matchmaking improve over time, the competency of lfg players would also get better. The entire community would become more experienced and instead of having ~20% of players who have beaten a raid and know what to do, you could have 80-90% of players who are experienced. This would dramatically improve the raid experience for everyone, noobs and experienced players alike. ALL you need to do is add a couple of filters that you can check off like "must have mic" and of course matchmaking should only be able to be used by people who are the minimum required light for that raid. This would eliminate mic less people and underleveled players. Then it's simply a matter of hoping you get a competent team, which Imo is no different than lfg. Either way it's a coin toss, but lfg is the slowest and most tedious way to toss that coin. The best thing and pretty much the only argument needed to dispute those who don't want it is this: If you don't like the idea of Optional matchmaking, don't use it. It won't effect you at all.

When a new raid comes out, nobody has experience. You know what people do? Group up with like minded individuals who all have a common goal. Wether it's to crush content ASAP, or take time and learn how mechanics work. Also be mindful of people having busy schedules so not everyone has time to do these things. That's probably the only logical reason I can find that people can't finish end game content like raids.

That's probably the only logical reason I can find that people can't finish end game content like raids.
Yea I agree that when a new raid comes out it's easier for noobs to get in a team, because everyone is a noob. But that rosey "koom-buy-yah let's all help each, love and peace to all Guardians no matter your experience" phase only lasts a couple of weeks. After that this community is back to "must be max everything, have all emblems, know the raid with your eyes closes, kicking scrubs, kicking squeaker, etc." So if you aren't able to get enough experience in that small amount of time, you are screwed. I remember seeing someone on these forums talk about how destiny is one of those games where you can't fall behind in terms of playing the content. If you do you will have a hard time ever catching up because of the way this community is. So if you aren't able to raid for whatever reason during those first couple of weeks, which many people aren't, you are going to have a very hard time getting experience in endgame content. Then we are back to the reason why so few people have completed a raid. Im totally mindful that people have busy schedules. As I said in my op, it's perfectly fine that people just want to get it done ASAP for whatever reason. I completely understand that and I'm not faulting them. In fact, that brings up a good reason as to why people may not even get to attempt raids as soon as they come out. People having busy schedules is one of the reasons people miss the koom-buy-yah phase and because of the way this game is set up and the way this community is, you are essentially being punished (for lack of a better word) for not being able to keep up with every new amount of content as soon as it drops.

Thanks for the input! I appreciate that you thought it through. I disagree with you on the matchmaking side of it merely because of what I've seen in other games but I'm always open to test it out!

Yea I think we should at least try it. Thanks for keeping it civil. It's the only way to have a serous discussion about this game that we all care about. Kudos, guardian 👍
