Reimagining The Raids: King's Fall

This one'll be a bit shorter than the rest of my posts since there isn't that much for me to improve on in King's Fall, despite the fact that it's my least favorite Raid in the game (not going into why, it's not the point of this post and people are gonna disagree with me and I'd much rather talk about the changes than my opinion of KF). Why? Because KF has no down sections like VoG or CE has (Confluxes-Oracles, Abyss, Bridge) for me to add gameplay or aesthetic changes to. It maintains the atmosphere very well (both Hive Raids have been successful in this regard more so than the other Raids), and gameplay-wise there's very little I would change. It's mechanic heavy and I'm not gonna mess with the core mechanics in any way. So here we go: King's Fall. Destiny's first and only Raid of Y2. King's Fall reward system may have been an improvement over the last 3 Raids (I'm including Skolas for the sake of argument from this point on, so suck it), but the rewards themselves were not. The Hand Cannon and Auto Rifle are considered the two worst Raid weapons in the game, and the Shotgun and Fusion are not far behind. A few standouts, like the Pulse Rifle and Machine Gun saved it from being completely horrid, but it was enough to damage it in the eyes of many. We had gone from 3 Raids to 1 and the rewards were worse? What the hell? Long story short, where King's Fall succeeds as an endgame experience, it fails at being an actual endgame. But that's not the point of this post, and I'm not going any further down that line of talk. No, this post is about lore, atmosphere, and basic changes to the gameplay to enhance the feel and experience. So let's go: 1. Oryx taunts you. Pretty simple. Basically have Oryx taunt you throughout the entire Raid. He's Destiny's only villain capable of speaking English, and that's an opportunity to really make his character shine. You're in his domain, killing his court, and coming for him after slaying his son. The fact that Oryx wouldn't be watching and taunting you the whole time is pretty preposterous. Just add some story Bungie here and there. I know Raids are supposed to be mysterious and not hold your hand. But we're in the house of our greatest enemies and they don't say a word? C'mon. 2. Every time a glyph lights up on the Totems encounter, the corresponding Totem pulses, killing all Hive in the respective area. Does this reduce the difficulty a lot? Maybe. But I'd also have it that more enemies spawn in the center to balance that out. The whole point of Totems is to be deemed worthy by the Warpriest by the blood you've spilled. If you kill a room full of Hive 20 or so times in addition to those normally killed by weapons, then it makes more sense for the whole Totem encounter to exist in the first place. I don't feel like I've killed a lot of things the way it is now. I don't feel worthy. AM. I. NOT. WORTHY? 3. Golgoroth's Light Puddles. These are bubbles of light Taken by Oryx and his brood, be it from human Guardians or those previously granted Light by the Traveler. So the change is simple: while standing in the Pool of Light, you hear the whispered screams of everyone Oryx and the Hive have killed. How's that for threat establishment? 4. Tablets of Ruin. Hard Mode only change this. Instead of 6 deaths on Normal and Hard to trigger an instant wipe, it now only takes 3 deaths to complete the Tablets of Ruin on Hard. Always felt that having it triggered by 6 deaths on Hard was kind of moot since 99% of teams would have already wiped by then. Raise the stakes, make the mechanic have a point. 5. Oryx's Death. His death's already pretty spectacular and unique so the change here is pretty small. Basically show the worm inside him start to devour him. Have the same animation and all, but as he drifts away have the worm slowly eat him. Lore my dudes, the lore. That's pretty much it. Short, I know, but eh. Whatever. Don't worry. What I've got in store for Wrath of the Machine, oh boy. I know I said I wouldn't be redesigning the Raids completely, but WotM has some amazing potential and I can't implement it to its fullest with the Raid in its current state. But that's for next week. Not yet. Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed. All criticism is welcome!
