To the 'exotics are meant to be different, not powerful' folks...
Why are we limited in what we can equip, then?

Why are we limited in what we can equip, then?
Because specific unique perks could trivalize gameplay when combined. Example: Bad Juju/Hawkmoon/Zhalo Supercell, Icebreaker/Invective, Gjallarhorn + Obsidian Mind + Nothing Manacles + Voidfang Vestments + Tranversive Steps Equals a god of a Warlock.

That should be possible in the PvE Metagame..
-
This exactly

They were meant to be powerful, the community made them weak and change bungie's philosophy on them. The forums have proven that they can't handle powerful and usefull primaries.
-
That's not true. They were meant to be interesting. There's a whole TWAB section on it about a year ago.
-
Only because people wouldn't stop crying. Such a shame. :(
-
Not at all. Being OP was never the concept behind exotics.
-
They weren't op, that was just the way they were. They were meant to be strong. Shame you couldn't handle them.
-
Except for the fact they weren't meant to be that way. That's why Bungie changed them. It's why Bungie explained that exotics aren't meant to outclass other items. Jeebus, pay attention.
-
They changed them because the community couldn't handle them. They gave in to the vocal minority unfortunately. Such a shame.
-
That's not true. No one complained about Gally, for example. Not to mention the fact that the laid out the vision for exotics quite clearly, and everything they've done has been in line with it.
-
Ghally is still the superior rocket laucher. Even then there are even more powerful exotic heavies. Bitching is what got exotics trashed.
-
That must be why they took the time to explain the underlying philosophy behind exotics.
-
Not at all. Being OP was never the concept behind exotics.
I dont agree they were OP at all. However I dont think they were supposed to be too powerful. I think they were supposed to add flavor to the kool aide =)
-
Most weren't OP. A few were, like Y1 Gally and the original Thorn and Suros.
-
Most weren't OP. A few were, like Y1 Gally and the original Thorn and Suros.
Gally was good in PvE. Suros was hit and mis. It could take on a scout or pulse but a good player sniping or rushing was still a threat. Thorn was a pain but really the artifacts shoukd have came sooner. More counters less nerfs. 3 outta how many isnt that bad.

Gally made PVE essentially trivial. Fun for a minute, but ultimately not good. And not sure how you can say Suros wasn't OP, since it absolutely dominated Crucible In the very beginning, IIRC. Also, the "buff everything else instead" mindset is just dumb.

Also, the "buff everything else instead" mindset is just dumb.
Gally was cool. It was really just a boss shredder and made it possible to skip a long battle of a boss you already beat. Or to be a low level and finish a raid and level up. Back then we all grinded PvE for stuff and PvP was inbetween amusement. Suros may have dominated I didn't pay too much attention. I was never big on it myself and while I certianly noticed it I never called for a change. But I never do anyway so could just be me. I am not so much "Buff instead of Nerf" I guess I said that wrong. I always understood the game was based on counters. So rather than ask for something to be weaker I looked for options to overcome it. In todays crucible much has been leveled so counters would need to be buffed back. This was a very early montage from my other channel. Funny thing is even this date is 08/25. I was using pulse/shotgun before people even called it a Meta lol. These weapons were always there and always good. Its just people are so worried about having an edge they dont experiment enough and that kills the game. The run into someone that can counter them and they figure it must be cheating. So now we sit around and cry about it instead of figuring out the counter. Anyways enough of my ranting. I know you want balance and the counter thing probably dosent register. I'm good with that. But if you ever get bored you should try it.

Because it adds perks to your overall game. It would be like having a whole new weapon based perk tree.
-
Edited by Swiftlock: 4/16/2017 5:38:14 AMBecause Bungie screwed up. They had their hearts in the right place when they said that Exotics should "feel overpowered, but not be overpowered", but then they said "screw it" and nerfed the crap out of the things.

Why are we limited in our subclass perk options? Why are we limited in perks for our weapons and not just have everything active at the same time? Why can't the Defender bubble have Armour, Blessing and Weapons at the same time? It's all about player choice and play-style.
