3 RepliesEdited by nebin123123: 4/4/2017 10:54:08 AMDear Max, I was taught this in grade school. Exempli gratia: I was also taught cursive writing, penmanship, and the diagramming of sentences. Most people nowadays can't even construct a coherent sentence, let alone be bothered with grammar and punctuation. I thank the catholic school nuns who thought me, and I shudder at what today's public schools pass off as education. Have a great day too! Ox·ford com·ma noun noun: Oxford comma; plural noun: Oxford commas a comma used after the penultimate item in a list of three or more items, before ‘and’ or ‘or’ (e.g. an Italian painter, sculptor, and architect ). Origin a characteristic of the house style of Oxford University Press.

2 RepliesAlways, always, always the Oxford comma. Legal disputes regarding money have gone completely sideways in court because the Oxford comma wasn't used.

I've always used it

2 RepliesOr you could just construct the sentence to make sense regardless of whether or not the oxford comma is present.

Oxford comma is mandatory. For me. Apparently not a lot of other writings, even legal ones.
-
Yeah but I don't always use it. 🤷🏼♀️
-
Always Oxford Comma. It's what I was taught and what is grammatically correct.

I can't recall an example where an Oxford comma isn't the best choice.
-
I didn't know it had a name, much less that people didn't use it.

If you don't use the Oxford comma, you are a lowly peasant.
Off to the gulag for you, if you don't use it.
This sums up how useful it is

I always use it

1 ReplyIt's unnecessary.

I love it. In fact, I immediately think less of people who don't use it.

I could go either way, I generally get what they're saying enough to not correct them. Unless I'm feeling like an asshole, however.

Edited by BlackToe: 4/5/2017 11:39:38 AMCommas before "and", piss me off. I hate using too many commas in writing. Makes me feel as if I'm one more away from making it a prescription.
-
I know it's proper to use, but I drop it sometimes.
-
Never used it
