In a word, No. Veteran rewards should be strictly cosmetic. I'm all for allowing a Scorch Cannon skin for rocket launchers, or an IceBreaker skin for snipers, etc, as long as there is some kind of transmogrification system where I can apply the skin to new gear as I go through the game. I don't want to get an item that's great for me at lvl 1, and have it useless by lvl 5. I'd rather be able to continue using the skins. I'm okay with veteran-exclusive ships, shaders, emotes, and titles as well. But it should all be cosmetic only; nothing that gives any kind of a gameplay bonus. You don't want them giving out actual weapons or armor. They'll be great early on but will quickly be superseded by regular game drops: you'd never use them after the first month. For example, when I bought TTK it had a code for some kind of exclusive Vanguard weapon set. Yeah, they were junk compared to the regular stuff in the game: never used them. Might have been good if I was started from scratch, but as a veteran player they were trash. I've got a longer thought on how they could handle veteran rewards: I'll see if I can post it in a few hours when I'm not at work.

 • There's been a lot of chatter in the last few days about what, if anything, we'll get in D2 for being veteran players of D1. So far as I have found, there's been no mention of rewards at all other than a one-line blurb here. And even then they just say
We also plan to award those veteran accounts with honors that reflect your Destiny 1 accomplishments.
So, absent anything official from Bungie, this forum has done what it does best: speculate and toss about various ideas of what should be done and how. I suppose this I will be no different in that regard. I played another game years ago called Guild Wars. When they announced Guild Wars 2 they said it was a whole new system (new mechanics and such) so nothing could transfer over to the new game. Just like Bungie is doing with D2, and that's understandable. Technology moves on, you learn from the old system and implement better ones. I have no issue with that. But, to preserve the sense of accomplishment for players of GW1, they came up with a system where the more stuff you accomplished in the game the more neat stuff you unlocked in the new game. They called it the "Hall of Monuments." Weapon and armor skins, titles, and pets. That was it. They were all cosmetics (to avoid vets having an unfair advantage) but it was a neat way to acknowledge our efforts. You can view mine here if you care. It gave us a reason to keep playing GW1 while waiting for GW2. And we had 2 years to do this. The last content was released in '10, and GW2 released in '12. 2 years to earn all the neat cosmetic stuff that showed you were a veteran player of the old game. If Bungie plans on giving veteran players rewards in D2, I think something like this would be a good way to do it.
