41% of people here say they don't even use math. Like, ever. And of the people who do use it, most of them need it for their jobs.
41% of people here say they don't even use math. Like, ever. And of the people who do use it, most of them need it for their jobs. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/223573428/0/0
whatisstratification.jpeg It follows from your lack of mathematical literacy that you think this statistic is valid, and that it is relevant to what is being said in this thread. The majority of users here do not know calculus, and are in highschool. It follows that the majority would also feel this way about mathematics because they do not understand the useful tenets of it, just rigorous algebra that they don't actually need, or rather it's usefulness has not been elucidated to them because of they lack the mathematical knowledge required to do so. Your argument is thus flawed due to the statistic which you've used.

My post was not an argument. It was a statement.
-
Were you or were you not making an implication?
-
I was making a statement about the people here. In this forum. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.
-
I just make statements with no purpose too, because I'm super cool yo.
-
There is a purpose. You just seem unable to perceive or comprehend it. As they say, "the absence of evidence, is not the evidence of absence." You should try asking more questions and jumping to fewer conclusions.
There is a purpose. You just seem unable to perceive or comprehend it.
If there was a purpose, then you would be making an implication from a premise, thus it being an argument and my criticism being validated. You're using circular logic here. I fully comprehend what you're attempting to say with that thread, and when I pointed out the inconsistencies in your methodology, you were the one who stated that you were not making any implication, not me.

Edited by Lil Durk: 3/23/2017 7:11:17 PMThe purpose was to show you that most of the people who regularly use more than basic math are people who use it for work. Which is exactly what the poll reflects. And obviously if they have jobs, then they are not these unlearned high school students that you are referring to.
-
And the statistic is flawed because of the demographic you are sampling from. Don't make me sound like a broken record player, I literally just explained this.
-
No, it's not flawed at all. If most bnet users are high school students like you said, then the poll should reflect that. The "no" votes should be a clear majority, but they are not. You keep trying to redefine things to make yourself seem right, but you just keep digging a bigger hole.

Edited by The Cellar Door: 3/23/2017 10:31:41 PMNo, they shouldn't....because there is two "yes" options.....

He's right though that the poll has absolutely no merit. The population is this forum, so at best it could only show anything about this forum. Also, since it was a poll it's completely volunteer based. Don't you think high-level, math utilizing, working people are less likely to answer or even be on the forum than high schoolers who just hate math? Polls on here are fun to see but can't be used in the real world for proof of something. Again, even if it was taken in an unbiased way, all you'd be giving credence to is the idea that 40% of people on the forum doesn't use math. A group of gamers whose average age is around 16 does not equate to the world population.
