Destiny Experiences: from lord of patrol to slightly-less-than-typical player

So, before I begin, I would like to say a few things. First, if you are one who doesn't care for long storys, this may not be for you. Secondly, I know not many people follow me, so this will just get eaten up in the forums. Now for the story. So, beginning with pre-Destiny release era, I only knew of this game from the commercials, nothing else. Of course I wanted to buy it, so in September of 2014, my family bought an Xbox 360 E. So I bought the game the day after it came out, put it into my 360, and found out I needed an external hard drive to play. 2 days later, I got the hard drive and finally started the game. I was entranced by the music, and the character creation looked promising. The Titan was my first choice. Of course with many new games, you have that awkward experience of "WTF is this and what am I doing?" But I quickly grew used to it. Anyways, It was fun going through the Story and patrols. Almost relaxing. My most interesting experience in the kinderguardian time was when I was going from the Citadel to Campus 9, and since this was my first time going through the Waking Ruins, I was marveling at the environment. When I glanced to my left, I saw a team of Guardians fighting Vex that were too high of level for me. (At the time, I had not heard of VoG). I tried to join in and help them, but, being lvl 12, I was instantly killed. After all of the story stuff, I had a dull period of mindlessly wandering in patrols. I would often do bounties, and seek out public events. At the time, I had no idea what Ascendent Materials did. I got bored in early October and didn't play till The Dark Below released. At this time, I had a blast messing with the Hive Blades found in the Blade of Crota patrols. A little after the releae, I received my first Exotic Bounty. Out of the three choices it gave me, I chose "A Voice in the Wilderness", the SGA one, because it was the only one that didn't require any strikes or Crucible matches. This was my first ever exotic, and at the time, it was what I thought to be perfection. (One thing I forgot to mention earlier is that my 360 came with a code for 1 month of free XBL Gold.) Some time during the 1st DLC either mid-November or early December, I used that code. In that month of free XBL Gold, I experienced more things than any other time in Y1. I obtained the exotic bounties for Thorn, Invective, and Bad Juju (I was only able to complete the one for Invective. I played a lot of Crucible. I even participated in Iron Banner my last week. In my second to last game of Iron Banner, I joined a game in progress, got 0 kills, 2 deaths, and it ended in 2 minutes. The best part was I got Gjallarhorn (and surprisingly no hate messages). I found it hilarious though, how this is the only time I got no raid team invites. That month was obviously my best moment of y1. After that, I was back to my daily routine: play the daily heroic story mission and walk around in patrols for hours. In late January I created a Hunter to also play around with. Between The Dark Below and House of Wolves, I finally saved up enough Strange Coins for 2 Sparrow Drives, so I got 2 Legendary Sparrows. Skip all the way to House of Wolves, and I found something new to do in patrol. I would farm for the House of Judgement tokens so I could get more reputation and my hand on a new Hunter cloak. I also created a Warlock to make things easier for farming. Near the end of House of Wolves, I heard about The Taken King news, and that got me excited, but as I would plan to buy the DLC and XBL Gold, I would have to give up my simple Y1 way of life. Y2 comes, and I was excited by all the new stuff. I could finally do all the activities I couldn't in Y1. I also met new Xbox friends, and at some point tried out ToO, but plan to not go back after the horrible lag switch moment. SRL and the 2 events really felt fun. In July, I switched to Xbox One. Y3 comes around, and I was amazed at first, but it quickly became dull. The raid is the only thing that kept me entertained. Festival of the Lost wasn't much fun in Y3, but the Dawning and especially the SRL were a blast. TL;DR: I miss Y1 so much, but only because it held potential and there were no bad experiences then. I hope that the Age of Triumph will help me relive Y1 in some way. Regardless, thank you Bungie for a good 3 years.
