For a discussion on the technical limitations on vault space, we go to Crux/Lomar engineer Sal Watchowski. Sal?
Thanks. Basically the original vault had a small number of displacement chambers that we believed would be sufficient for any Guardian's needs. Of course as you know, this number was insufficient, and we therefore increased vault space. This was no trivial matter, for it involved restructuring and reexpanding- and of course space requires, well space.
We had to acquire (by non-lethal means) the apartment units in levels 835 to 861 of the tower, creating new displacement chambers with associated shielding and blink displacement buffers- at no insignificant cost, I might add. The infrastructure is complicated by the fact that both temporally and spatially there has to be some sense of continuity for the items within a particular faction members vault space (due to legal/political considerations- see Vanguard Legislature 00244 on property aura overlap addendum 62b).
Of course the vault space was increased further- and while it was again possible to acquire (by necessary means) the living quarters, storage units and databank vaults in levels 737 to 834 within the tower- we wound up excavating and building too close to the sewage and fresh water plumbing lines- resulting in the "my gear stinks" issue of year two and the biocontamination-caused outbreaks of early year three.
Now while we would love to expand vault space further, we now run into (A) the limitations of contiguous displacement; laws of physics prevent us from having displacements within a volume larger than currently exists- without tapping into the city main, which would threaten the CIII ventimetric support of the Traveller. (B) the structural integrity of the top 20% of the tower would be compromised by the magnetic field, (C) we'd have to route sewage lines outside of tower proper, and (D) there is a Darkness threat imminent that may render all items stored in the vaults irrelevant- and therefore we have more important matters to apply our resources toward.
So in essence- really can't be done. However, it has come to my attention that many Guardians are outsourcing gear storage. While the Vanguard has strictly discouraged this in the past, of late they are willing to look the other way, if you want to pay silver to PublicStorage down in the Last City, or use one of the expat dreg 'Happy Closets of Gun Wonder' that they've been advertising.
But I wouldn't worry too much about it- when the s**t comes down, and believe me, it will in six months- you'll likely be lucky to escape with nothing more than your pretty face.

As funny as this is, I don't want to give them the idea of monetizing Vault Space. People here get on my nerves as it is.

Yeah I've seen posts where people say, "I'd pay 10 dollars for more vault space", but sounds like it flat is not going to happen. Oh- but are you talking about people on the forums making lots of posts suggesting pay for space? In which case, yes, that would be annoying.....

Either would be annoying. The people who obsess over Vault Space are a little too vocal in general. Whether they'll pay more or scream, they both won't stop.
