Why does one need a degree in creative writing? Why can't one just creatively write? It seems ludicrous to have to have a degree for conformation of ones skill. Creativity can't really be taught. Either people have it or don't.

Because employers dig qualifications. Besides, I may be arrogant, but not enough to believe a degree wouldn't teach me more in the field.

Self taught people tend to be more successful than those run through a machine of conformity.

Besides, I don't have the initiative to be a self-made success. Have I self-published? Yes. But my fanbase is tiny and I've no idea how to increase it without serious legwork and investment of time and money.
