Special Ammo Changes

Now, I personally think that special ammo changes were unnecessary and not what we (the community) asked for. Firstly, in year 1, primaries were strong but so were specials. Still, there were no special ammo problems because primaries were strong enough. For this patch, we asked for stronger primaries - which is what you gave, Bungie, so fair enough. However, we did not ask for special weapons to be nerfed - and that is not what you said was the game plan. You said you wanted to bring primaries up to be able to compete with special weapons. Now, I am not a great player. Not by any means. I am a 1.0kd player who enjoys using weapons that are fun but not necessarily the best. I loved sniping. I loved using Plan C and other fusions like 77 Wizard. I also loved playing an aggressive playstyle using a shotgun (but not always matador). I used fun shotguns like the Chaperone and Winter's End. Here's what's wrong. You said that the aim of the game now is to "search for special ammo on the map" in order to use it in the match. You said we needed to rely on our primary weapon skill to fight for special ammo. As I said, I am not a great player and lets be honest, there are hundred of thousands of new players coming to Destiny and they have absolutely no chance when it comes to primary gun skill against top tier and middle tier players. I am not good enough to play and fight for special just so I can use it until I die again. We need more special ammo in the game. You're forcing us into a primary meta and what I want in particular is to have the ability to choose whether I use my primary or special weapon for certain engagements. Here is what special ammo means to Destiny... Special ammo brings character to the game. Think of games like Star Wars Battlefront where you only have one weapon plus abilities. It's boring because you only have one range of engagements to choose from. Special ammo creates so many different playstyles. At the moment, we have just four main playstyles. They are: the hand cannon playstyle (which is short to medium range play), the pulse rifle playstyle (all round range playstyle with limited ability in the air), the auto rifle playstyle (short to medium range with limited air accuracy) and the scout rifle playstyle (long range play with limited in air ability). So, there are just 4 main playstyles. Lets see what special ammo can add to this: The aggressive airbourne playstyle (shotgun or sidearm rushing with juggernauts and abilities. This style would be balanced now with the nerfs to juggy and shotguns), the passive intelligent playstyle (sniping in long sniping lanes (although there aren't many in destiny)), the aggressive sniping playstyle (snipers with low zoom (please unnerve that to create this playstyle) where you use twilight garrison and ranged melees like smoke to kill targets), the medium range but composed playstyle (fusion rifles are used as passive guns to counter short range gun play although very few fusions in the game have good range). See this Bungie?... This is character. This is being able to play whichever playstyle you want. Please, give us special ammo after death back. Primaries are strong enough now to counter unintelligent moves and it can open up so many different ways to play. thanks for reading Bungie and I hope you see the future from my eyes. Edit: well since I'm on the trending page I suppose I need to make an edit. Thanks for the comments and remember to bump if you agree. The more bumps, the more chance that bungie will see it. I also want to mention something that I forgot to add the the post before. Some people or bungie will say: well if you want to snipe, use Nlb or Icebreaker. If you want special, use a sidearm. However, this just adds to the lack of options when it comes to weapons. The current meta is designed so that a players only special weapon options are sidearms or those two snipers which is NOT varied enough. we need more options!

  • I barely play Crucible now because of them forcing us to use the weapons they want, I hope they change it because it's so stupid, I don't even switch to my secondary anymore... No point.

  • 10000000% Agree not only does it ruin the flow of the game but now ppl that used to snipe only or shotgun only have to use NLB or Universal remote (i'm a Shotgunner) Universal remote is ok but if i were to run that i couldn't engage in long-range gunfights unless i run a sniper buuuuuuut i need spec ammo and there's the problem all what i could stick with for now is a sidearm and the MIDA i can engage in far and close range combat but im kinida forced for this setup BUNGIE PLZ FIX

    • I like the buff to high impact pulses and auto rifles. Hand cannons got their initial accuracy back which was good. They need to increase the time to kill on some of the other primaries if not all. I like having more choices when I play. I don't like being restricted to a select few weapon archetypes to come out on top. All weapon archetypes should have their strong competitive weapons. I think exotics should all be competitive, not OP though.

    • bump. completely agree. two boxes of special might last me a few deaths, but now I have to wait sometimes 40, 50 seconds for one box to spawn, use one or two bullets, then spawn with no ammo and do it all over again rather than playing the game.

    • Last night I dropped into PvP for the first time since the patch dropped. I favour PvE but do like to drift in and out of Crucible for some fun. It felt less fun. Yes, I do focus on my Primary. Sort of. But I always enjoyed the flexibility og being able to switch to my other weapons when the situation requires. It's how I do it in PvE as primary ammo is still more plentiful than the others there, even when you don't lose Special/heavy ammo on death and can pop a replenish item when needed. You still can't afford to be wasteful. When I'm all but forced into only using my Primary it feels, well it feels forced. And, as such, not as much fun. What might also contribute is my usual loadout. My "Primary Primary" is the Zhalo Supercell. I main a Primary that really excels in crowd control. When a mission or area doesn't have swarms of enemies mobbing me, I change my loadout as appropriate. I switch to a different Auto for Primary and change up the rest of my loadout to make up for the loss of the chain lightning. In Crucible, the Zhalo just isn't as useful so I will tend towards a Backup Primary but with Heavy only dropping once a match and Special emptying upon death (frequent... I'm not great at PvP, I just play it to blow off steam) it now means that I feel forced into a completely nonstandard loadout when I play Crucible. Special isn't everything to me but neither is Primary.

      • This is a very passionate and well thought out post, its a nice change from whats ussually cluttering the feedback forum, unfortunantly i dont see this nerf to special ammo being changed any time soon, and the majority of the feedback community (the "nerf herders") will continue to cry and complain about every special weapon primary and heavy until we are all left with a gun firing a single nerf bullet.

        • Year one was more fun due to the fact that all play styles were effective, although we didn't have balance. Now we have closer to balance but exotics feel weak as they are easier to nerf, and guns in general feel weak. I believe That special should be returned and weapons bumped back to year 1 ALL WEAPONS.

          • Bungie thinks that by removing ammo they are improving this game, lol hahaha........... The mindset is fcuked......Here's a clue Bungie .....It a fcuking SHOOTING GAME......................If you don't give us ammo then you will have to change the definition of the game to one of a game of limp wet pants. Get real Bungie there are 17+ open world games out this year, you are on fcuking dodgy ground with your draconian attitude to us players, nerf, nerf, nerf is not working, your idea of balance is to sterilise the game until it's impotent !! Stop relying totally on meta data , it's impersonal, does not reflect the real feeling on the ground( i.e. us players).
