Well according to a titan Mark (forgot which one) it's spoke of a titan saying 'you should not speak as your separate from the plate'....the titan meant that you and the "plate" (armor) are one...so I'm guessing with time your light interwines with your armor and weapons making them stronger in a sense. Proof can be the way we use motes of light for lvling up our gear and exotics.

The same way in Skyrim the world just magically gets better weapons as the weeks go by. Why is a simple bandit using a glass axe? It's a game mechanic dear, to a degree it can be explained that some guns are just better quality
