Well....here we go, I guess...
What do you like?
I like that hand cannons feel good in crucible again. But it's a shame that the drop off to range will have such an effect on their usefulness in PvE.
I like the fact that primary gunfights are regular now.
I like the reduction to Warlock melee range.
What do I hate?
I'm frustrated. It feels like every patch has looked wrong on paper, and then, when it's been rolled out, it has been wrong, and subsequent patches are always an effort to make things that were wrong with the last patch, right again.
Movement speed in the game is too fast, maps are too small, and constant radar awareness is too aggressive for the ttk that's being forcefully imposed. That's why people gravitate to special weapons, because it's a weapon that allows them to kill an opponent who's running across the map, jumping, sliding, shadestepping etc. This is why the vast majority of the community were asking for buffs. In most scenarios, and on most maps, it's incredibly unusual to be able to kill someone, without taking at least some damage. When you fire at someone (even if they aren't looking at you) the slow ttk gives them long enough to turn around and at least land a few shots on you. the problem with that is, if you combine that with small maps and ever present radar, somebody else is very likely to round a corner and finish you off. This makes the game very, very frustrating. In order to combat that, people gravitate to whatever weapons kill the quickest, so that they can start getting ready for the next opponent. Again, this is why buffs are constantly requested. That's what forces people into a new meta. Choosing the best weapons that you've provided.
Every patch so far, seems to look at what weapons people are actually having some success with, and nerf them. Specifically them.
The problem with that is, in a game where we have to rely on RNG to get those weapons with a decent roll in the first place, it took us a lot of effort to get that weapon. We then have to spend a long time getting used to it. Working out what perks work best. Working out the weapon's best ranges and getting a feel for how long it takes to bring someone down so that we know when to engage and disengage from gunfights.
This means, that when a patch is released that turns our preferred weapon into crap. It's frustrating. Unbelievably frustrating.
When all we asked for, was for other weapons to be brought into line with our preferred weapons, to give us an element of choice, it's incredibly frustrating.
It would be great if we had the choice of either, sticking with the weapon that we got so used to and liked, or choosing from the new selection of weapons that had been brought into line with it.
As it is, every single patch wrecks the game for a good portion of people. It forces everyone into a pointless period of working out what guns are good again, because their old "go to" has taken a beating, all whilst knowing, that if the gun they like ends up getting too much use, it'll be nerfed.
Over time, this repeated process wears very thin. It was okay to start with, but as time goes by, it makes you question "why spend so long trying to get good at this game, when in a few months, a shambles of a balance patch will nerf the most popular weapons and force me to start over".
I've been telling a large number of friends to join me, in Destiny, for months now. Right now, I really regret it.
How can I ask people to play a game, where, as soon as they get good with a specific weapon in the game, it'll likely be nerfed into being unrecognisable.
I hate the fact that in an attempt to balance, things like hungering blade and quick draw get nerfed, when no one in the community has ever mentioned it being a problem. It comes across as though a dev team that doesn't even know what the issues are with the Skorri artefact, are really out of touch.
On top of all this, a patch was released that breaks a wide range of perks and skills, and it's being ignored to "see what happens". That makes it seem like the developers just don't care in the slightest.
There's a real disconnect between the playerbase and the developers. All we're asking for is to be listened to, and then told the truth. if the patch wasn't tested as fully as it should have been, just tell us. If things happen in the patch that were completely unexpected, tell us. Apologise if you've broken things that people rely on in the game. just be open about it rather than trying to bury the mistakes.
What would I change?
More regular patch updates.
More honesty in community engagement.
Only minor tweaks to popular weapons, whilst other guns are brought into line with them. Not the other way around.
Stop -blam!-ing everything up.
