Hungering Blade Clarification for Hotfix 2.5.0.2 Patch Notes

We just launched Hotfix 2.5.0.2 which contains a Sandbox tuning pass and changes to the Crucible. If you want an in-depth exploration into some of these changes you can watch our live fire demonstration here. For those interested in the bullet points we have the full Patch Notes up as well. In the interest of full transparency, we do need to clarify something in this update. Our test team discovered that the changes to the Blade Dancer Perk Hungering Blade were being applied to several other Health Regen Perks. Here is a quote from Sandbox designer Josh Hamrick.
Over the last couple of days, as we continued to test the patch, it came to our attention that the changes we made to Hungering Blade were unintentionally shared among a number of additional elements (list below). While we considered delaying the hotfix to remove the shared change, we ultimately decided to live with the patch we’d made and tested. We believe that Hotfix 2.5.0.2 is an important step forward to maintain the health of the game and that getting it out to you ASAP is in everyone's best interest. And besides, no one wants to show up empty handed on Valentine’s day. List of affected elements: • Hungering Blade (Arc Hunter) • Transfusion (Striker Titan) • Cauterize (Sunbreaker Titan) • Lifesteal (Voidwalker Warlock) • Red Death perk • Suros Legacy Perk (Suros Regime) • No Backup Plans • Ward of Dawn cast • The Ram • Apotheosis Veil • Embrace the Void (Voidwalker Warlock) Over the next couple of weeks, we will be diligently watching and listening to what you have to say about these changes. While we will be unsurprised if additional tweaks need to be made, we are honestly super interested to see how these changes, intended or not, play out. We will be relying on you to give us your feedback as you grow accustomed to the feel of the game over the next couple of weeks. We will also be with you ingame, playing along and making our own notes… Apparently, I have to redeem myself for my stream performance anyway. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a 1st date with a potential Skorri fix…
• How did No Backup Plans somehow get this change applied to it? Did it always heal you a bit on top of the shielding? Never felt like it did... Or does it NOW give the health boost as well as a shield? Hmm. Should never have nerfed Hungering Blade to begin with. Shame. As if Bladedancer didn't have it hard enough. This (and almost all of your) sandbox updates make the whole thing worse. It's like moving into a new home and going to the park and finding a new sand box! The first week it's awesome, all dry sand like you're at the beach, shoes off and no fear! But then the park owners get pets, outdoor cats. At first it's pretty neat having something new to play with, but soon you start finding cat turds in the sand box. When you complain that the new cats are making the sand box unsanitary, the park owners express sympathy and attempt to fix the situation by dividing the sand box into a part litter box so that the cats have a designated poop area and kids can play in their smaller sand box. The next day you find that you have less room to have fun, but different areas of the sand box are slightly more fun than others, and some of them are just poop. You complain that you want your old space back, that the cats are the actual problem, not the sand box itself. The park staff hears this and says how much they understand, so they decide that the best thing to do is buy a few more cats and make the sand box bigger, but while there are more spots to play in, they are all smaller than before and you have to walk through a bunch of litter to find a spot. The park owners say that they did what you asked, now you have roughly the same amount of space to play in technically, and still sometimes poop makes its way into the clean sand. You deal with it for a while and only mention a few complaints now, mostly about how you wish it was like it was before the cats arrived. The owners hear this and ask all the kids how the cats should be dealt with. Many, like you, were there from the start and say the cats should be brought back indoors and the sand box reverted to it's former glory... but many kids also say that playing while surrounded by cat litter and poop is how they found the box and they don't want to see it changed -- these children like to play in or around the litter box area. The owners hear this and make a final grand decision! They first show off their blueprints for the new Sand Box 2 - this time with a swing set! It'll be ready in like a year! This causes excitement all around, and now the owners have one more thing to say! They're buying even more outdoor cats and turning the whole original sand box into a full blown litter box with a bit of sand sprinkled over top! Today! You'll have to try playing in it for a year! Now you have a choice -- play in a litter box, or find something else to do.
