  • Because canonically, we refused to take the mantle.

  • Thats what Im saying we could be consider a option if our light becomes weak due to higher threats being too powerful. Sometimes to win a battle you have to become something you oath to defeat for the greater good

  • To do so would destroy us. Oryx had a plan for pseudo-imortality. His sucessor would read the Book of Sorrow, forge the Touch of Malice, and claim the Mantle of Taken King. Through the BoS his sucessor would understand him, through the ToM a fragment of Oryx would be preserved, and through the Mantle part of Oryx's being would transfer to us. Had we fullfilled all three requirements the shard of Oryx and the being of his sucessor would merge until something neither Oryx nor us truley remained, but something new and, in Oryx's mind, better emerged. We fullfilled the first two parts, but by rejecting the thrid we denied Oryx his return and prevented the emergence of something worse.

  • Thats the whole point of being a hero making the sacrifice no one else can't to change the world for the better. Honestly could very be good a good conclusion to our guardian story entering Destiny 2

  • Except that isn't a sacrifice. This isn't us claiming power to use the enemy's weapin against them. Its us taking our greatest hero and using him as the basis for the return of an even more powerful Oryx.

  • Yes it is.. Heroic Sacrifice is a common theme for certain heroes and is linked to The Noble Choice, Facing the Enemy, and Negativity turned Positivity - it is reserved for heroic or supporting characters who embrace their last moments with acts of honor or morality (usually to show they are willing to redeem themselves or undo Ex Superman comic superman vs Doomsday he had a choice either force everyone out of the city or stay and fight knowing he would die if he did. Thats what im talking about with the Guardian and using oryx power using it to destroy the darkness when you know it will destroy the light inside of you that keeps me alive

  • You clearly don't get this. This isnt taking one for the team. This is our greatest hero dying so that a more powerful version of Oryx can return. That's the whole point of Oryx's plan. If we take the mantle we cant use the power to defeat the Darkness because we become darkness. We don't wield the power, we cease to be and where we once stood a more powerful enemy than anything we ever faced emerges. And where is our greatest hero and the only person with sufficient Sword Logic to even challenge this new threat? Oh, that's right, he just sacrificed himself to become this threat. To use your superman analogy, this isn't Superman sacrificing himself to stop Doomsday from destroying the city. This is Superman sacrificing himself so he can become Doomsday and then destroy the city himself when the transformation consumes him.
