Honest question to those "Shotgun Meta" believers
I posted video in Class thread and it got me thinking. I rarely ever notice shotguns in my games. I assumed its my build as I am able to deliver punishing power if not 1hk from a good range. This is obviously a better game but I have many many more I can show. Even when I lose its to range.
Could it be my matchmaking? Is it possible its the game type? Maybe something else?
I don't feel this same Meta as people keep talking about. Can people post games showing me this out of control shotgun crazy please?

I am getting a lot of feedback, most seem to feel that the numbers themselves indicate the weapon is somehow better than others. If we go by numbers then stat wise its the easiest to counter also.
I also got feedback that the players are garbage. I don't claim to be great and in my SBMM they are likely in my skill level. Wouldn't that be where all the scrubs are that need crutches? Someone did point out maybe their stats boosted so they elevated. Makes sense but I would think competition would stiffen also and force a garbage strat/player out.

Per advice from another player I played Classic FFA to get a feel for some more sweaty type of gameplay. While I did encounter shotguns in every match they were not my weak spot. Surprisingly auto rifles were. I did see the clear difference in secondary use and with no team it took some adjusting to. I will keep playing as I had a blast and it definitely exposed my bad habits.
Please keep the suggestions coming and any video of what you see out there is awesome. Not a small clip please. I want to get a feel for how it can be abused or hard to counter.

2 RepliesI know the video says "Unedited", but you should really edit out that first 1 min and 30 seconds. :P But on topic, I tend to examine my opponents while we are in orbit and loading into matches and in more than one occasion EVERY SINGLE PLAYER has had Matador (except for me, I actually don't own one). Every. Single. One. It is comical.

1 ReplyYou are simply in a lower skill level bracket. I understand how you might think people in the lower bracket would be using "crutch" weapons, but honestly they don't feel the pressure to use great guns yet. They either don't have them, are only passing through The Crucible half of the game, or refuse to use the meta and lack the skills to compete still. Once you pass a certain threshold, you'll see a more significant increase in meta users. I will be online tonight if you want to play with me and my clan. Its good that players are rushing each other in exchange for a bloody fight instead of placing a tent and taking a sniper rifle out. I use both, Universal and a Sniper. [i]But here's the catch![/i] I also use shoulder charge (And no its not because my subclass isn't maxed out, i lovw shoulder charge) I love how sensitive people are!

22 RepliesI'm In top 1% for rumble, and all you see are shadestep/jug/storm Matadors, there are no snipers and occasionally a Saladin vigil but that's it. Sad meta. Clever dragons and litc palindromes are primaries lmao. I'm happy your game experience don't show the same lol

3 RepliesThe reason you don't see much shotty play there is because no one in the lobby knows how to use a shotty properly. You & everyone in the lobby are usually walking or running instead of sliding & jumping. You have guys pulling out scouts on a map that's pretty much all mid-close range fights.

5 RepliesPeople claiming a shotty meta are people that can't use, or suck against, shotties. I got killed by as many fusion rifles this past week in IB as I did by shotguns. And not every shotgun was a Matador either. I hardly died to any Clever Dragons either. I was killed by more scout rifles than anything else. But I saw plenty of people using AR's, pulses of all archetypes, scouts and yes, even HC's. I switched it up pretty regularly myself. I had more good games than bad games too. There ain't no stinking meta. Just a bunch of bad players that can't adapt. They'd rather whine than take the time to figure out a strategy, defense, or how to use a certain gun or subclass. Lazy MF'ers need to git gud and quit bitching about every little thing that kills them. Once they accept the fact that there are better players than them in this world, maybe their nuts will drop and they won't whine like 5 year olds that didn't get their cookie and milk break and a nap.

Imo I feel like they should do a weapons balance monthly. That way every gun has a chance to shine. But more to the point it would be pretty challenging to develop a meta and pvp wouldn't get so stale so often and no one gun would be overused for so long.

17 RepliesIf you played trials at all this weekend, you would have a different opinion. I'm confident in stating that at least 80% of the people i faced were using shotguns, with around 50% or more of them being full auto (a perk which should never have been put on them in my opinion).

13 RepliesIt's not the shotguns it's more the subclasses Titan juggernaut needs a cool down time it can take a golden gun shot it's for guys who are really bad at the game. I can counter them easy enough with sniper and last word. But it's the most annoying thing in the game

1 ReplyI've been running Bladedancer, Hawkmoon, and LDR. That's how I got my first no scope headshot on a Stormcaller that killed me and was about to kill me again off spawn. I just said "screw it" and went for it. You don't need shotguns to do well guys. Pick up and old friend (Vestian Dynasty anyone?) and go show those shotty warriors what it means to have "gun skill".

Currently in a lobby with one sniper and a fusion rifle. My friend is the sniper and I am the fusion rifle. Everyone else is using a shotgun.

I agree with you I don't see a reason to callers it a shotgun meta cause in the pvp games I play it's balanced between fusion rifles, sidearms and shotgun. Im more comfortable with a shotty and IMO it's just a personal thing

This ib I have run into a few different people who are running universal remote and matador. That just blows ass. Some mapscit is snipers but most it is shotguns. I'm not hating on it as I do not care. Play with what you want. I just suck with shotguns and snipers.

SBMM helps your games a lot. Just a fact. Trying sniping in the upper tier and you would understand. Go play with a friend with a strong ELO and KD in any pvp game mode and see how well you do. Even then you wouldn't be playing against the top. SBMM does average when a low tier and top tier player play together. Unfortunately you will never know what is like in the crucible against top players. Trials is your best bet but that also has a lot of chance. 100% of the time if I go play clash/control/skirmish. I am going to have to sweat my balls off. On top of that I have been playing blade dancer sniper since year 1. There were times when my character was the META but it's one of the worst load outs these days against the best players using the META

31 RepliesI mean when Matador alone has 5.8 million kills last week in ToO and then followed up by 2.8 million kills by Clever Dragon. There might be a problem. *I am not calling for anymore shotgun nerfs, they are not effective. As long as it one shots, people will try to warrior. Instead we need to look at primary TTK.
