OffTopic - The CoC Doesn't Apply?

I've taken this directly from the Code of Coduct(CoC) and want to see if a discussion can be opened. I'm trying to make a point. Not that the CoC doesn't apply, because it most certainly does, but that it SEEMS like it doesn't. You can't tell me you haven't seen things everyday on this forum that shouldn't be posted. Honestly, the posting habits of a lot of the users here leave much to be desired. I don't like to frequent this forum due to how horrible people can be. It's been so ridiculous here for so long that people believe that the forum is supposed to be like this and there shouldn't be any rules. Stuff That Rocks 1. Treating everyone with respect. 2. Making online friends. 3. Talking about stuff you're interested in. 4. Sharing the cool stuff you create. 5. Planning time to play with cool people. 6. Creating and Joining Private Groups. 7. Taking responsibility for your own actions. Stuff That Sucks 1. Personal attacks, harassment, or violations of privacy. 2. Disrespect for any reason: race, creed, gender, orientation, or disability. 3. Depiction or description of gory violence or explicit sexuality. 4. Breaking the law, plotting, or describing illegal activities. 5. Spoiling games with hacks, cheats, or unreleased story details. 6. Distributing unauthorized, copyrighted, or trademarked material. 7. Soliciting, plagiarism, phishing, or impersonating other users. Bungie reserves the right to moderate this website and everything on it. You are here to contribute to the conversation, not to derail it. Any attempts to interfere with the discussion here will be removed. These guidelines require your best judgment, so please play nice. If you're not sure if the stuff you're about to share is appropriate for Bungie.net, don’t post it. That'll help you stay clear of the Banhammer's blast radius. More insight into what these things mean. EDITS: To avoid looking like someone that just complains about things without a solution, I will add in my 2 cents. I believe that the moderators aren't active in the forums enough. There, I said it. People don't, and won't ever, use the report function to make it an EFFICIENT moderation tool. Sure, the report tool gets users banned, but it's something that you can't rely on. By letting offending posts stay up for hours creates the illusion that it's acceptable behavior. I'm not saying that moderators need to press their f5 button every second of the day and search through every comment immediately, but it's apparent there's a lack of attention to the forums. Either make it worthwhile to use the report button to your everyday users or strive to get more moderators/attention to the forums. And for those that argue against moderation and what not, I'll probably be giving you this reply: "Personally, I don't even mute let alone report anyone. But that doesn't stop there being rules on this site that are supposed to be enforced by moderators. Either bungie should employ more moderators or they should water down/remove their rules. Because there's no point in having rules that aren't enforced." -Cultmeister Apparently there's a slightly popular idea that moderators don't even follow the CoC, biasly ban topics, and even go out of their way to target users. I attribute this to repeat offenders and those feeling wronged not being properly educated on what they did wrong. Regardless of what is true, it's obvious there's many issues within the current moderation system that should be addressed. For now I want to focus on the issue at hand. I'm probably not going to bother responding anymore. Newer posts coming in are saying things I've already made points against/about.

      • What rules do you see that are broken constantly that aren't dealt with? It may take some time but we do our best to get everywhere on the site and deal with rule-breaking threads and posts. An issue is that there are so many forums now it's a bit difficult to get everywhere in a timely manner, especially when some forums move by the second, which is we have to rely on users to use the report button for items we don't get to right away. Of course, if users aren't using the tools that are given to them, it becomes much harder for us to deal with things. The Code of Conduct applies everywhere on the website. There is not a place that it does not apply.

The trouble is people don't report as much as they should. In the old days there were loads of mods around so when someone started a religious thread (back when they were against the rules) it was shut down within at least twenty minutes or so. These days there aren't as many mods patrolling the site and the ones that do can't see everything. So if you see something that breaks the rules, you should report it. That's it. People don't report things they see, they just sit there complaining that it hasn't been dealt with.

            • It's no secret that mods don't follow the CoC. They ban anything they don't like or agree with. I'll go so far to say that they pick on certain users

I've always said that I believe the mods do a damn fine job around here for the situation they're put in. I just personally think Bungie isn't utilizing them effectively. Nor are there nearly enough of them. I don't know the exact numbers, but there has to be very close to the same number of active mods on this site today as there were when we had 1/4 of the traffic. This puts the mods in a position where they can't cover nearly the amount of threads they once could, so they have to rely more on us reporting inappropriate content so they see it. And quite frankly.. that's just lazy administration by Bungie. Especially when mods are unpaid volunteers so there's zero monetary concerns with bringing on more. Beyond that, I've always been a supporter of having section-specific mods on websites this large that fragment themselves the way Bnet does. We have like 500 damn sub forums on this silly site. And let's face it.. people are going to prefer spending time on one or another of those subs more than they do others. Mods included. So why the hell wouldn't you assign mods based on the subs they spend the most time on anyway?

                • Mods don't follow their own rules. I get banned for all kinds of ridiculous things, while other people sling insults and disparaging remarks about all kinds of people with impunity. I don't care which set of rules you use, but apply them evenly.

                        • You couldn't be more wrong. Basically anything you post on here will get removed if even one person complains to Bungo about it. I've had a post where I questioned a couple things about religion, some dumbass got butthurt and it got removed. Didn't violate the CoC at all. And this is just one example. This has happened to me multiple times and many others even more so. As for how this place should be run, I think that as long as someone isn't viciously and repeatedly attacking someone and/or posting porn/hentai and/or spamming and/or being racist (or any other derogatory thing ending in -ist), no action should be taken against them. If a few people get butthurt, that's their problem. If it gets too out of hand or the shit mentioned above happens, ninjas should step in. Most people that are here are here because a) they don't feel dealing with the cancerous fan bases of #Destiny and its related forums and #Gaming, and b) because this is one of the least moderated forums and that's what they like about it.
