  • Old man gamer here, but a disclaimer: although I jump in from time to time I haven't been surgically attached to Destiny since shortly after RoI. I just got tired of looking for a story, and abandoning the core mythology for a story about a radioactive Twizzler technology was proof that I wasn't going to get one. That said: Destiny has always been about feel over fullness. As a sandbox it is just like how I played as a kid - I'm a cowboy, or ninja, or magic alien, but none of them actually have an identity - they're just things to do. That's fun! - until something else comes along that makes you want to participate in it. I think D1 did better than I expected in wringing value out of its content (because let's be real: the last two expansions are no different than mom's famous ability to serve leftovers in unique ways until the turkey's gone). I'll still be back and I love the experience. As a week one player though, I think any comparison to year one - flawed as it most certainly was - is a total non-starter.
