One of the best posts I've seen on these forums simply said
Think about it, no one originally purchased Destiny for PvP
-
The only reason that it even seemed that way was because they already had the new content completely finished & ready to launch as it was cut from the original game. They had time to focus on the game at hand, because they didn't need to develop new content... & even then, they still involved themselves at about the same rate they do right now with pvp. We don't see patches for months & months at a time. It's been this way since day 1 ; with the exception of literally game breaking issues being hotfixed...infinite Quiver glitch, spawning heavy ammo glitch, etc etc. When TTK released, both sides got hit very hard - both pvp & pve were subject to multiple nerfs. Pvp didn't nerf Gjallarhorn, Blackhammer, & Fatebringer. Pvp didn't get elemental primaries removed. Pvp didn't render all prior DLC gear completely obsolete for the next relevant content. None of that was the pvp community. Bungie nerfed things on both sides super hard. It wasn't one, or the others fault. These forums are specifically meant for players feedback, opinions, ideas, speculations, community-made content. What's really a shame is that people can't post their opinions without being attacked by keyboard warriors. Without it automatically being considered as "crying". When the majority of players are making complaints about the set weapon, it's usually because it's a strong option in general. Ease of use, overall effectiveness, minimal skill gap - whatever it may be, the statistics behind the scenes that bungie looks at coincides with all those complaints. Example ; UGH! Clever Dragon & Matador are sooooo OP!!!! It is clearly no secret that they are extremely popular weapons, they're very effective, they're very easy to use in comparison to other types of weapons... Bungie calls the shots. There will never be a point where everybody in the entire community is totally happy with every aspect of the game. Even the notion of that sounds ridiculous. We all play the game for 1 reason when it comes down to it ; we enjoy it. We spend our spare time on it because it's fun. That should be the end of it. Stop blaming each other for the game developers decisions because it's stupid as hell...we're all on the same gaming forum. It seems that everybody agrees these forums are 'toxic', yet everyone is still here reading them.

Agreed pvp wasn't even a consideration when I purchased.

At this point, I don't even know what Bungie's wants. They release PvE content in a looter shooter game so rarely, you'd think it'd be a PvP game. But most quest and exotics are earned through PvE. But there's barely any PvE content. And they have tons of PvP events. But they haven't released a balance patch for 4 months!

PvP population yesterday was - 503,203 PvE population yesterday was - 810,167 so basically .. what you talkin bout Willis ?

I bumped this before I even read it.

My gripe is that PvE and PvP are not separate. They interact far too much! There was gear, a sword for one, that could NOT be obtained unless you went into Crucible. With this particular one, the nerfing of heavy ammo had you running around trying to kill players with the hilt. This is bloody ridiculous! I don't really care that there is no more PvE content. I payed for what I got, and it ran out. PvP is not a substitute. When PvE runs out, I stop playing until the next DLC comes out, and I pay for a new lot of content. I don't want to play PvP. I'm not particularly pissed off that there is a component of the game that I payed for, and don't use. Sometimes I buy some food and don't eat all of it. What does piss me off is that the part I do play, is so heavily influenced and affected by the part I don't play. Bungie says I won't get this or that particular item, unless I play PvP. That's like the food vendor saying I can't leave the premises until I eat all of the food he sold me. As noted more than a few times here, the PvE players always outnumber the PvP players, and yet there are still those who say, "Without PvP the game would die." This is nonsense. As clearly shown in my friends list, PvP is sure as hell not keeping them playing. It's much more like, as PvE content dies or gets old, the player numbers fall, and no amount of PvP will keep them playing.

Destiny in general was better in year one.

This guy gets it

Finally someone on these forums with a brain.
-
Yup. But now we gotta cater to the MLG. Pretty soon you will have story campaigns that are only 5 hours long... ala COD
-
Yep. And hunters ruined our subclasses.
-
Hells yeah
-
The state of the current game has nothing to do with PVP. Bungie made these changes because they didn't like the statistics they were seeing and the sandbox team doesn't have a clear idea of what they're trying to do.
-
Agreed. PvP alone destroyed so many PvE weapons.
-
Year 1 PvE content: 1 good raid (VoG) 1 glorified strike (Crota's End) 1 PoE (Remember the "no raid for HoW" outrage? I do.) 3 bullet sponge strikes (2 if on Xbox) 1 PvE event that a lot of people gave Bungie shit for (Queen's Wrath). 1 incoherent story Ah yes, I remember that. Year 1 was so much better.

Edited by FreakingElite09: 1/17/2017 2:54:54 PMThis is 100% correct. The promised PvE content is why Destiny had 25 million people try it The broken promises and PvP focus is why it dropped to 8 million still playing it.
-
No shit. And to get good gear u gotta play pvp and trials

Edited by Phantom139: 1/16/2017 10:02:51 PMFirst, let me say that I agree with the title statement that a PvE focus on the game would result in a much better game. As some other have pointed out, while it feels like the game has received too much PvP focus for the last two years, this is in fact not the case. A lack of content releases has been the main culprit here, and when they did do content releases, some of the "changes" had some pretty negative impacts on PvE (Handouts, All activities leading to max light, ammo reduction, etc) There are plenty of great suggestions on how to improve the situation for the game here, and I have proposed a few myself that seemed to get a little bit of a good following before disappearing without any dev. input (Repeated Below). Some of the big ones here, some of which others have suggested, that would really help are as follows: 1. Separation of stat tables, updates for PvP/PvE 2. Removal of "Competitiveness" from design of game, go back to the more arcade style shooter elements that made Social Halo Multiplayer fun. ** One of the things that would really help here is a redesign of Trials to make it more friendly to all players while maintaining competitive element, things like setbacks instead of losses, matching based on flawless victories and current wins, upper brackets would go a long way to help. ** Secondly, PvP players don't need to get to maximum light level, in hand with the "handout" notion this game has currently reached, lock out max gear to raids / nightfalls, and drop everything else 25 points below max light, then make PvP light enabled playlists consider that 25 point drop the maximum light attainable via a Clamping Function 3. Addition of more PvE monthly elements (Events with unique elements) 4. Rehash of old PvE Endgame at current maximum level

I wonder if Destiny 2 is even gonna have PvE? My main consensus now is that it's gonna be just like Overwatch. I always come on for the update and always leave disappointed.
-
Good (notice the word "good") PvE content takes a lot longer to make, which is why they probably do more updates to PvP since it's easier to make modes and maps much more quickly. They could whip up PvE content in that time. In fact, they did this in Year 1, and what came from it (Queen's Recycled Missions, Crota's Cheese, and Prison of No Raid) was considered to be pretty wank. For me, Quality > Quantity. Hopefully, Bungie can hire someone who can write some good short stories for missions between content droughts so PvE can remain interesting.
-
Yup. They once even did a PvE queens event, once being the key word there unfortunately.
-
You mean before HoW when the only way to get max light was by playing the worst of the current 4 raids?
-
...reads title... You don't say.
-
By far. Yes
