The experience was better, vog was a impressive raid with a lot of mystery around it raids need that.

you're mistaken. There was a lot of mystery around vog because not so many people were speed-running content. So the first achievements were fun. These days, it's really hard not to get spoiled and to have to discover any mechanics of the raid by yourself. Plus, a lot of community got organized. You've got clans, regular friends with whom you play stuff. So getting surprised, you have to try hard. Especially when you play since year 1 (or the beta)... there's so much we know already. The modern raids are way more complex than VoG. Listen to destiny devs talking. They are making use of a common vocabulary, so if you know the first raids, you'll know a lot of the things you have to do in the new raids. Because it's going to reuse the same elements, but in a more complex way... we are the ones who made the magic go away by grinding the raids to a pulp. And then we complain they're not surprising any more.

You're correct. Grinding them really hurts. Bungie has not helped matters in making a spectacle out of "world's first" for new raid completions either though.
