Also known as the fallback of people that aren't genuinely funny, so they have to be either ironically funny or referentially funny, meaning that something other than they themselves is doing at least half of the work. See also: what is claimed when someone does something incredibly stupid and doesn't want to lose social media cred or legitimacy. Satire sits just above mimes and ventriloquists in the bottom of the humor barrel.

Understood. I have no issue with you, satire is simply a tool for tools, imo. Different strokes for different folks, and all that. Same thing when I realize Jeff Dunham still has a career; some people think it's the funniest thing since slapstick and Monte Python, I see a boring middle-aged guy with his hand up a puppets butt. But give me an episode of The IT Crowd, and I'm all set.
