There seems to be a lot of overlap between a strong dislike of the ACA and living in a state that did not accept an expansion in Medicaid. Expanding funding for Medicaid would give relief to people who fall in the gap where you're too poor to buy your own healthcare coverage, but make too much money to qualify for Medicaid.
Now, I think it's quite understandable to feel screwed over by the ACA if you are in one of these states, because not only are there new federal requirements for health insurance, which makes it cost more, but there's no option for any relief on your part because your state denied Medicaid expansion.
However, this is not a fault of the ACA - this is the fault of your state. Your state was given the option to give relief to its poorer residents with regards to healthcare insurance, but they said no. The people you should really be mad at are the ones who made that decision, not the ACA.

2 RepliesBefore ACA: American taxes went towards paying the bills that people didn't pay when they went to the hospital, but no significant increase to any tax due to this. People without insurance don't get elective surgeries or treatment. After ACA: Americans pay MORE for their insurance to compensate for ACA policies given out for those who can't pay (or fined if they chose not to get coverage), no significant tax increase. People without insurance AND people with ACA coverage don't get elective surgeries or treatment (because a LOT of places don't accept ACA coverage). I pay more for the SAME -blam!-ing shit that was around before the ACA.

Maybe a better run alternative might be a better solution than all the government health care. I don't want to see people who can't afford coverage suffering, but at the same time I don't want watch my taxes go up. Maybe an economic debate in the halls of DC is in order. Look at our military, we're still using guns from WW2 and we're paying a premium for them. You'd think with our technology we could make a better, cheaper, and more reliable gun.

thanks Obama

My deductible went up 50%, my copay is now shit, I lost my doctor, and my step sister loses her advanced tax return because Obamacare has no services in her area but she still is bound by it She used to advance her tax return to buy Christmas presents for us and pocket the extra but this year she was unable to buy anything for anyone Oh she also lost her job when her work began cutting jobs and cutting hours to save costs (she cooks in a hospital). I hear the hospital she used to work at closed down because Obamacare strangled the supply and rural hospitals all over the country are losing patients because the ACA doesn't permit people to go to many doctors

Well being from Mn I can tell you the only way to get on the states plan is if you make less than 25k a year. So most people with a decent paying full time job won't get that. The insurance I can afford barely covers anything. My cousin with 2 daughters that have really bad dissabilities don't qualify for better insurance to help them. Yet if you are making minimum wage or are unemployed here you get great health care, to the extent of covering the cost of a sex change! How messed up is that?

28 RepliesMy health insurance premium just went up. My deductable, also just went up. The % my insurer will actually pay, after the deductable is finally met, went down. This is after being told by several people the story that "costs are gonna go up again.." is just right wing fear mongering.

Idaho Hate the ACA
However, this is not a fault of the ACA - this is the fault of your state. The ACA is an abomination. There is zero justification for its existence. On what grounds can you coerce me into purchasing a good or service? Could the state force me to buy Trump's Art of the Deal?

It's not the best thing, but the fact that it's going to be "replaced" with nothing is a leap in the wrong direction.

as much as i love to troll spergs like max, there really is no one person or policy to blame for rising medical costs and the programs and laws we pass to offset it. people that point to the coverage given to those who couldnt afford coverage before are ignoring those that have to now pay much much more in order to keep the plans and doctors they already had. this is not a secluded incident either. also, blaming states that turned it down is pretty weak. the federal government shoved this legislation down as fast as they possibly could, while promising left and right it wouldnt affect people with current plans, and in some cases would make their plans more affordable. some libs reading this will probably ask me "whats YOUR solution then bigot?!?!" honestly, anyone telling you they have a perfect solution to lowering healthcare costs for everyone is wrong. high healthcare costs are a byproduct of living in a country with amazing doctors and medical technology PER CAPITA in relation to our high population. if your response is to look north of us to Tumblr the Country or across the sea to little insignificant countries as how healthcare should be done please do everyone a favor and go back to fantasies of Comrade Sanders being POTUS

Before ACA, I had no deductible, no out of pocket & my co-pay was $10. After ACA, $20 for co-pay, $400 dollar deductible for family & $2,000 out of pocket. I consider myself lucky at this point. My folks plan was $30 co-pay, $1,000 deductible & $3,000 out of pocket. Their plan is now $65 co-pay, $5,000 deductible & $7,500 out of pocket. Good idea in theory, piss poor execution.
