really wish people would scrutinize obama and every other president as they do with trump
The past 8 years Obama has seen an incredible amount of scrutiny, so I don't know where the -blam!- you were. Bush was hailed as one of the worst presidents ever. Clinton was literally impeached. I don't know what you're talking about.

Edited by Trestero: 12/14/2016 7:15:32 AMObama essentially brought no meaningful change and backed down on what he campaigned for too quietly. My family, myself included, are democrats and we openly criticize that. Better to get something done, even if it's controversial, than nothing. That's how we keep law from stagnating and it'd be the same if we had a Republican in office who had just dropped what they were campaigning on. Hell, that's probably half the reason Hillary's campaigning (which was a mix of her stances which are more of the same and the kind of identity politics that worked in Obama's favor) blew up in her face. They tried to market her with the same kind of appeal Obama managed and people got tired of that shit. I'm personally more worried about the people Trump is surrounding himself with than the man himself at this point. I don't think a Trump presidency could plausibly go badly enough to start WW3 because of us; at least we're gonna be friendly with Russia and they're probably the biggest factor since we historically have tensions with them and would have a much harder time restoring that relationship than others. And that's assuming he doesn't turn out to somehow turn the country around, he already won the election after all. What I worry about is that the guys in the Cabinet are gonna run free when a lot of them have views or histories the Republicans I know would refer to as crazy, because any damage they do is gonna be centered on some pretty important parts of domestic policy.

Edited by Catty_Wampus22: 12/14/2016 10:01:03 AMIt's not that Obama 'backed down quietly', he never intended to do those things in the 1st place. It was just rhetoric to get elected. As a few examples: Before he got the nomination he did a lot of talk about how NAFTA was unfair, a problem and needed to be rewritten. Then the minutes from a meeting between Obama's advisors and Canadian politicians were leaked where Obama's team said all his ANTI-WAR talk was just to get the nomination, it didn't reflect his true intentions. Liberals cried it was all a nasty lie set up by republicans. And then Obama won the nomination and guess what? There's absolutely nothing wrong with NAFTA, he just got carried away while on the campaign trail. While campaigning he would tell liberal audiences he didnt support the war in Iraq because it was a 'stupid/dumb war' yet when talking to conservative audiences he'd tell them he was against it because we weren't done in Afghanistan yet. While campaigning he said any health nc are reform must have at least a public option. Obama wins, democrats control the legislative branch and OBAMA tells them to remove a public option from their bill. At a town hall a girl asked for his stance on nuclear energy, saying she couldn't support him if he was pro-nuclear. He LIED and said while in the Senate he pushed through and passed a very tough bill on nuclear energy and thought there were far better options. Not only did his bill NOT PASS, but it was VERY friendly to the nuclear industry. He even rewrote it after taking thousands in donations from nuclear energy companies to be even more lenient on them. Then he became president and tripled the loan guarantees for new nuclear plants to be built. Obama criticized Bush for having secret, closed door meetings with industry while determining their regulations and promised of elected any such meeting would be both broadcast on TV and streamed on the Internet because his administration will he all about transparency. Then he becomes president and his administration has several secret, closed door meetings with industry while determining their regulations and claims they MUST be secret because of national security. Because clearly our republic would fall if al qaeda knew what they said during coal ash regulation talks...... Criticizes Bush for all putting lobbyists and such in positions of power, even vows those people "won't have a job in my white house!!!" And then he becomes president and puts lobbyists and other industry execs in position of power saying "they're just people, too"
