Today the development team is making a few changes to Matchmaking settings with the goal of improving your experiences in the Crucible. Here is a quote straight from the team with some details about what is being changed.
We’ve made a change to the Matchmaking system in an effort to increase match quality. Our specific goal is to reduce the number of matches that begin before they fill up with players. To achieve this, we are expanding the available skill-range for other players earlier and more aggressively. We will also be looking for lower-latency matches for longer than before. Essentially, this puts a stronger bias on connection quality, with less emphasis on skill matching. This may result in slightly longer matchmaking times in some cases. For some of you, this could mean that you’ll be matched with opponents well outside of your skill range. We hope the tradeoff is worth it to improve the Crucible ecosystem in general.
As always, our work in designing a Crucible experience that serves all players is never finished. Be sure to let us know what you experience out there. Our forum, just like our game, is a constant source of great feedback.
These changes are now live in all playlists*. After you play some games with the new settings, feel free to post in this thread with any feedback you have. Let us know what you think.
*All playlists excluding Trials of Osiris, which matches teams based on card wins.

Recently the connection in crucible matches has been worse than it's ever been. Played a couple of games today and there were at least 3 red bars in each and every game. I love this game more than anything but I really can't keep going with the current state of things. I can understand that the player base is really low right now making it almost impossible to get games with perfect connection but it's really frustrating to have to deal with the same thing everyday. I've stuck up with this game for too long but I've had enough of it right now and doubt I would keep playing.

Edited by Leviathan369: 12/23/2016 2:58:22 AMIf you are going to put us in shit matches with redbar a$$holes at least let me streamline my reporting mapping it to the dpad. It gets tiresome reporting all these $hitbag$ by going into the menu every time. P.S. do they actually test these changes in the same type of environment their players play in before releasing it?

1 ReplyWatch the first 10 seconds of the video.... then tell me how good connection based matchmaking is .... like seriously. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kQcmWbu0SoY

Complete bs!!!!! Every game takes 2 minutes to find another team and the other team always has a higher elo than me. This is purely skill-based matchmaking with no emphasis on connection. Deej - you are a liar.

6 RepliesThis is from a player who can't afford good internet. I can't do anything to get better connections and I'm decent at trials. It is time to stop blaming people for their poor connections. I just want to have fun and all you want to do is get me banned. It's insane. This is my favorite game and when people send me messages saying "enjoy your ban" it worries me. I don't want to get banned. I like this game but I can't do anything to help my connection. You get too upset over a game if you're going to try and get people banned because they made your game experience worse by not letting you kill them.

3 RepliesPetition to REMOVE Skill Based MatchMaking. from crucible. A high quality connection allows us to make smart plays to beat better players. I would love for enough people to support or hate this idea for Bungie to notice. Because something needs to be done, and making it slightly worse every month isn't working for anybody. Thanks

5 RepliesWhat im trying to understand is if the matchmaking is more concerned with finding better connections how could it take longer especially of you have a wider skill variance?

SBMM is a bit like communism in the way it looks great on paper, but in practice it's fkn shambolic. It's Internet communism enforced by corporate capitalists...

4 RepliesIm now in lobbies with 4-6 red bar players with the new "connection based matchmaking" as before when it was SBMM i was only seeing 1 or 2 redbars every few games.... The lobbies are getting to the point its unplayable hitting a full team with blade dance and not getting a single kill as no hits register and so on. I wouldnt mind if it was few and far between matches but im coming across this so regular now its disgusting.

I don't know if this new download fked something up after this thread was made but it's worse than ever. I used to have so much fun in crucible smh :-(
-
Is this the results on the whole "remove sbmm" bs! It is just way worst than before!

2 RepliesJust some feedback for the retards at bungie. Pvp is still shit and laggy. Hope you window lickers are making more pointless changes to this terrible pvp
-
Trash. Garbage. Rubbish. Putrid stench. I will say this: every time you try to balance this thing, you make it worse. It's really quite impressive.

Went back to PvP after a month or so. I played 2 matches of clash. And they were the most painful matches of my life. EVERYONE in the matches were using the "meta" Guns and abilities, and were trying their asses off to win to the extent that I could not believe what happened. Bungie: Your way to find matches that would have fair ground is terrible. This "fix" seems like you just made it laggier with longer matchup times, and the "skill" based matchmaking seems WORSE!
-
Just went into 2 elimination matches in a row as 2v3 All solo in lobby, NO fireteam, and yellow bars
