Titans in pvp?

ok so i started out destiny with a titan, but soon switched to hunter and haven't looked back. having recently started getting into pvp more, i felt the urge to try my titan again. i got wrecked. not once but over and over. i see people doing really well in crucible with titans pretty regularly, so i know it can be done i just... don't know how to me, it seems like the titan is too slow (even the turning speed and jumping) to escape damage once you start getting hit, but doesn't have enough health to survive the damage for long enough to do anything. it feels squishier than my hunter even. too slow to avoid+too weak to weather =free kills. the other big problem i'm finding is that the titan's melee abilities and cqc in general isn't as viable as that of the other two classes (shotguns... i'd give my left arm to never see another shotgun lmao), but they have no real ranged abilities except for hammer of sol (i prefer the other two subclasses anyway). so... not great for melee, but no real ranged option. so i guess what i'm asking is, how do you guys play titans in pvp? how do you compensate for essentially being boned as soon as someone starts shooting at you unless you're already in cover? edit: a lot of people are suggesting titan skating and after looking into that i agree it'd definitely help, but i more meant side to side movement, for example, to get into cover

  • How to succeed in PVP on a Titan in 5 easy steps. 1. Learn how to skate 2. Play striker 3. Use juggernaut 4. Have matador 5. Warrior everyone who is not running clever dragon. (All other primary's Ttk is to slow to stop this strat.)

    • Well for starters Titans are a CQC based class. That's why we have a very limited arsenal of ranged attacks. For starters use Striker. That's currently the best PvP subclass for Titans. Then throw on Increased Control and look up how to Titan skate if you haven't already. For any sort of side to side movement use the Twilight Garrison. The Dunemarchers would work pretty well for you too. Next if you're looking to get up in the face of enemies then use Juggernaut. That will allow you to get up on enemies very easily when combined with skating. Or if you want more mobility than use Shoulder Charge. So many people think that this ability is overpowered and easy mode because it has OHK potential when actually that's what makes the perk pretty shit as it feeds the enemy team kills. The mobility bonus it provides however is pretty damn good. It just takes awhile to get used to.

            • With the right set up titans are easily the fastest class in the game. Striker with, jugg max agility, twilight G, and increased control titan skate = ridiculous close out speed.

              • Simple. Get a good shot gun. Run striker lightning nades, increased control, discharge and jugg. Practice titan skating equip twilight garrison or dunemarchers for increased mobility. And forget about that thing people call a "primary" weapon. 😂

                • as someone who plays a Titan most of the time, I can agree that titans are different. Unfortunately they haven't really had any abilities that have been THE ability to have(best thing was lightning grenade). For instance, we don't get seeker/chain grenades. Nothing that allows for range in the melee slot(warlocks get super range, hunters get blink strike and their projectiles). One roaming super in a subclass that honestly isn't that great. One subclass that flat out sucks in most pvp. It's like titans get everything, but the best stuff is spread all through the subclasses like butter. In terms of stats, our slight boost to base armor and ability to run max armor on Striker is sometimes useful, but most of the time not needed because you have to pick a bunch of bad perks to be able to do it.

Dude you just need practice. Titans are the fastest class. They arguably have the best jump. Also they have good grenades and powerful melees. They have good supers too. Fist kills any other super, hammers are ranged and roaming, and ward protects you from outside damage while providing buffs. On a base level I'd say they're pretty stacked. You just need to know how to use them. Getting killed away from cover isn't a Titan problem anyway. It's just you being used to the crutch of other classes that allows you to not win gunfights and come out alive. You gotta have map awareness and gunskill. You have to be in control of the battle instead of just being forced to run all the time.

                    • I'm a hunter main and got a Titan for first time after RoI and Striker just wrecks. After I got used to the skating and movements I put up monster games. Somehow that's the character I get 7 wins the easiest with in ToO too.
Play Defender. In Crucible, you'll see 75% Strikers, 20% Sunbreakers, and 5% Defender. Estimates, of course. There's a reason you see fewer Defenders--the truly beneficial aspects of the Defender kit are harder to use effectively than Striker. Shoulder charge? Juggernaut? Fist of Havoc? Much easier to use than Suppressor grenades or Ward. Defender requires accuracy and awareness to use properly but has considerable payoff. I could spend all day talking about it. Use suppressors, keep your annoying ability spammers suppressed, and spend some time thinking about placement of your bubble. It's all highly tactical and requires thought and planning. But, again, the payoff is great. A good Defender can change the flow of a game by keep abilities constantly suppressed.

                      • I'm pretty lousy myself. Extremely average at best and I've been a Titan primary since day one mostly playing pve just to make it clear what type of player you're getting feedback from. My strategy when I play is to focus more on KD and less on total kills. So I play patient and slow for the most part. Good crucible players obviously are faster and more aggressive and destroy me so I don't say it's the way to play. But with my striker I use my grenades to cut off angles of approach or blind targets and I always run armamentarium to keep a grenade handy. I play the middle and stay near cover. My aim is also terrible so I have to get the drop on someone or quickly try to leap behind cover and disengage. With defender which I prefer it is harder to get a solid kd but more rewarding. You definitely have to play careful unless you're good at Titan skating and shotguns which I'm not. But I run a shotgun on my defender for use inside ward of dawn. I also run suppressor grenades because I may not get many kills but I do consider it a victory for my team if I can interrupt a blade dancer or storm caller in their super and stop a total wipe of the team. Basically you just have to accept your role as a support player until you can learn to take better advantage of the speed capabilities of the class. Great speed is possible but it takes some work and focus until it becomes second nature. But man that defender is fun. You won't dominate if you're a guy at my kind of skill level but it's really cool to make use of that bubble and help turn a control match around. Those warlocks and hunters are damn good opponents though. Must respect their lethality. Also to my fellow titans. Why you smash my bubble? What ever happened to solidarity baby? 😏

                      • Don't rely on the abilities like melee but get used to the Titan movement capabilities. Getting used to Titan Skating will make it easier to escape dangerous situations and enter into advantageous ones. Try using Twilight Garrison in your games to get a hand of using it.

                      • In order to understand how classes work in PvP and how effective they are,you actually need to play. When you have a total of 9 hours (PvP) on Hunter,3 hours on Titan and 0 hours on Warlock (total 80 PvP games) you are not helping your arguments. Every class/subclass have weaknesses and strengths. Titans are a strong, aggressive class overall. But you need to play different (when you are used to another class/subclass -btw I am not sure that can be said in this case-) than Hunters. They have good/great nades in all 3 subclasses but different from Hunter's nades. They have max armor and super speed but not as agile as Hunters. They have OHK melee but there are not projectile like Hunters (Knife for example). Jugg/shotties are better than any other subclass using shotties (when the said Titan knows how to close the gap fast). Striker can stop any other super but you need to use it the same/similar way you'd use Nova (example) and no Hunter super is similar to this. Defender is a "special" kind of subclass and need a "special" kind of player to master. Hammers are pretty much a roaming super like Storm with a little more aiming but stronger overall (imo). With that said I think you actually need to play more PvP.And you need to practice every class/subclass.This way you learn the strong/weak points of them and you know how to use them or defend against them. PS:Just this one makes it clear that you dont know anything about the class: "to me, it seems like the titan is too slow (even the turning speed and jumping) to escape damage once you start getting hit, but doesn't have enough health to survive the damage for long enough to do anything"
