The only opinions that matter are ones based in facts and evidence.
At that point, they're no longer opinions, they're facts. It is my opinion that metal is the best musical genre. Is that any less valid than someone's opinion that rap is the best musical genre? When it comes to music, and other opinion based discussions, facts don't really come into it, do they?
English
-
"Opinions where facts are concerned."
-
Not what you said though.
-
Strongly implied, and the picture did.
-
Yes, but I was directly addressing your own words, specifically the ones I quoted.
-
Yes, I said the only opinions that matter are ones based on facts and evidence. That does not include things like music or favorite color. It would be gravity, evolution, round earth, etc.
-
Exactly. So you're saying non-fact-based opinions do not matter, which is what I'm getting at. Fact-based opinions are just facts, not opinions.
-
Not necessarily. People can deny facts and hold a different opinion, which the societal meme says we should respect. For example, creationists and flat earthers.
-
Well creationists don't always flat out deny evolution. Anyway, if you're denying facts that isn't an opinion it's just idiocy.
-
They do. If the you say the earth is 6,000 years old, it is an anti-evolution statement. And that was my point, idiocy lol.
-
don't always
I'm well aware that some deny evolution, but many believe God created earth and mankind and still admit to the existence of evolution.
-
How do you define an "opinion where fact is concerned"?
-
Scientific facts and strongly supported scientific hypothesis.
-
I didn't ask what you meant by facts.
-
I don't understand your point. Scientific facts are based on evidence. If you hold an opinions that is not supported by evidence, such as the earth is flat, 6,000 years old, or the center of the universe, your opinion is not to respected. "Opinions where facts are concerned."
-
Again, I asked you to define what an opinion based on fact is. You've clarified your meaning of "fact", but that's not what I was asking for. I'm not making a point; I'm just asking for you to explain yourself.
-
The opinion I am referring to is accepting the evidence put forth by scientific facts, not your favorite color for example.
-
It seems to me that you are making the same mistake that I was addressing in my original post. Belief is not equivalent to an opinion.
