Since the beta fusion rifles have been in a very strange place. Some were monsters, others... radioactive waffle irons.
But overall they've really struggled as an archetype to find a place they belong.
This is my solution. Use existing effects in destiny to change fusion rifles from straight dps dealers, to utility kits.
Since fusions use a number of beams to output damage each tracked as individual hits, we have an excellent way to create effect stacks.
Depending on perks our bzztpewpoof guns could.
Suppress: each individual beam adds say, a second of suppression time.
Obviously duration adjustments would be needed but that's just my base for the pitch
Applied DOT: again just like thorn each successful hit adds a stack of burn damage
either extending burn time or burn damage
Slowed Movement: Stacks duration per beam hit.
would work like fallen slow mines; slowing movement, rof, reload but leaving abilities intact
This would create a new niche were fusion rifles weren't trying to compete with the other specials.
Plus imagine them in pve. Supporting fire teams and giving them new options in strikes and raids.
I'm sure there are other crazier effects they could produce but those 3 already exist in the game and could probably be applied to weapons more easily. (Some effects are already on guns like thorn or grenades).
Anyway. I'd be surprised if this showed up in destiny. But for Destiny 2.0? I'd love that, personally.
Please. Tell me your thoughts.
I'd love to hear your opinions, alternate ideas, or even just some good banter.
