Crossing the Rubicon Ch. 2: The Anomaly

"Get moving!" Victor demanded. "Shaxx is holding off the tournament, but not for long," the titan got comfortable in his ship and flipped switches. Laurel and Matson climbed into their respective ships. And the three took off for the orbit of Earth. Six other ships were waiting in orbit with them. "Guardians, your first arena is designated 'Anomaly', Luna. Every Guardian for themselves." With our orders from Lord Shaxx, the six ships activated their jump drives and flew to the large rock in the sky. The six ships, of varying shapes and colors, flew over the silent moon base. One by one, flashes of lights appeared under the ships as their respective Guardians were transmatted inside the facility. The Guardians stood around and inspected each other. One hunter, clad in white and gold armor and a helmet in the shape of a bird's beak, walked up to Laurel and Matson, then shoved Matson back, causing him to stumble. "Did you two just get out of the stroller? My, little, civilian, sister could break you both like a twig. Neither one of you should be in the Crucible." Matson grabbed the hunter's arm and pulled it behind the man's back, then forced him into a wall. "Maybe your sister should be here, wearing those bedazzled booties..." Matson threw the hunter on the ground, causing a cloud of dust to get kicked up, before walking away. Laurel snickered then left the group as well. The hunter adjusted his helmet and cloak then chased after Matson with a knife in hand. Victor grabbed the hunter's wrist, tightening his grip until the hunter dropped the blade in the Lunar dirt. "Save it for the games..." he said with a stern look through his helmet. The hunter yanked his arm free with a growl, then picked up his knife and left. Victor summoned his white shelled ghost, Nathaniel, "Log 1: Matson Murdock has some fight in him. The warlock, Laurel, seems to be a lighthearted character; as of yet, I don't believe she could be much help in a frontal assault. All in all, I am still against this." The game was on. Guardians ran around the moon base, both looking for other people to fight, and avoiding confrontations that seemed one sided. Gunshots of various weapons-- mostly shotguns-- echoed in the air sealed base. Without the artificial atmosphere, these competitions on Luna would be silent. Flashing on Guardians' HUDS were messages of who killed who and with which weapon, or who decided to step outside the walls of engagement. Victor stayed low, auto rifle ready to shoot, as he approached a corner. He looked around for anyone, but the next hallway was empty. He scanned up the stairs, but still no one. He turned around and checked behind him. A warlock was already charging a bolt from his fusion rifle! Victor spun around and put his back against the wall. He pulled a flashbang from a pouch on his armor and tossed it through the doorway. After the explosion flashed blinding light into the room, the titan stormed in, trained his sights on the warlock shading his eyes, and gunned him down. Victor hid behind a wall, pulled a fresh magazine out, and reloaded the weapon. After loading it, he stood back up and scanned the area again. He checked his radar, no one was approaching his position. "Hey, boss!" Yelled Matson as his active camouflage deactivated. The hunter slashed his knife across Victor's side, who then held the cut, and covered his hand in blood. The titan, in retaliation, grabbed Murdock and pushed him into a wall. He pulled back his arm for a punch, but Matson ducked. Victor's fist dented the steel hull and sent arc energy in all directions. Matson punched Victor's stomach, " Ahh!! S***!" He yelled when he broke his hand on the plasteel plating. Victor, again, grabbed the hunter and threw him against the wall. Matson double jumped, and while in midair, kicked Victor away. Victor pushed himself up and chased after the fleeing hunter. He stopped in the center of a four-way and looked around. The escapee was crouched down on the revolving machine scanning the anomaly. "I wouldn't be so concerned with me at the moment..." he said. Victor raised his weapon up to shoot Matson, but Laurel force pushed the titan off the deck and into the sea of wires. Victor laid there for a moment, recuperating from the fall. "Oh, my gosh! I'm sorry, Captain Riekel! I wasn't meaning to hurt you!" Laurel cried from above. "Hurt him? Don't worry about hurting him, you're supposed to be killing him!" Matson laughed before running away. Victor got up, holding his left shoulder, and activated his jetpack, flying back to Laurel's level. Laurel was shaking in fear, but trying to impress Victor, she widened her stance and raised her hands up like a boxer. The titan chuckled and did the same. The two Guardians walked in a circle, keeping equal distance. The hunter from earlier ran between them, but Victor clotheslined him, then finished off with a fatal blow to the visor. Victor started off with a few jabs at Laurel, who screamed every time she narrowly dodged his fist. She would channel energy into her hands, about to force push the titan away, but he would catch her hand and direct the burst elsewhere. Laurel pulled a golden hand cannon from the holster, about to fan-fire it into Victor, but he grabbed the frame and disarmed the warlock. They were on even grounds. Victor began throwing more powerful punches. Laurel managed to keep dodging and blocking his swing, to the titan's surprise. "I... I had... three bro... brothers growing up!" She yelled as she leaned from side to side. Victor threw a cross punch, but Laurel actually caught his arm and force pushed his elbow shattering the bones! "Oh, my God!!" Laurel cried out as she watched the display. She backed up and held her hands over her helmet. "F***!" Victor held his arm, and kept it from twisting. He had fallen to his knees as he continued to shout profanity. "I think it would be better if you put him out of his misery..." Laurel's ghost, Crimson, stated. "I think, I'm going to be sick..." Laurel cried. She picked up the hand cannon known as the Last Word and shot Victor three times in the head, killing him. The very young Awoken fainted from the display; laying beside Victor's body. "Uh, Darling?... Are you, okay?" Crimson asked as she scanned the warlock.
