FotL is the worst experience I've had in Destiny

I'm not sure whether anyone at Bungie will end up reading this. I hope somebody does. I can't guarantee it won't be exceedingly ranty or go off on tangents, but it's something I need to say - for myself. Some background for me, just so you know where I'm coming from with this: I've been a player of Destiny since day one of launch. Before that, I guess, since we had the beta. I was so hyped back then that I almost bought a P4 just to get a few extra days of play. I bought both the original Ghost CE and the CE for TTK. I've got almost 87 Days of playtime. I just did the math on a whim, and since Destiny came out in 2014 (786 days ago, I've spent over 1/10 of that time playing the game. Of the 10 posters hanging in my room, 9 of them are Destiny related, and that doesn't include the large ceiling banner from Y1 release, or the two concept art trifolds I got from GameStop. I didn't get my first Gjallarhorn (side note, pronounce it right, it freaking means YELLING HORN) until after 920 hours. My friend group has done every single experience Destiny has offered. We made silly alternate names for Strike Bosses. We've run PvP with the laggiest (or lag switchiest) of them all. We have run day one blind raids of every single release with the exception of Vault of Glass Normal. We've felt the rush and success of beating a raid for the first time. We've had some of the craziest glitches I've ever seen in Day One raids that probably stole WF from us. We've had terrible fights that caused way too much tension for what should be fun among friends. We had rage quits - hell, I caused someone to rage quit on a Day One for a bit, because I wouldn't let up. I guess you could sum that up easily by saying this: I have played a hell of a lot of Destiny. I have had amazing experiences, and I have had terrible ones. Festival of the Lost this year was the worst experience I've had. I spent a disgusting and shameful amount of money on Silver just to open chest after chest of a mask I already have. Now, I understand much more so than your average (possibly even above average) gamer that game development is absolutely full of its own trials and tribulations. I have argued with dozens of people FOR microtransactions/DLC as a supplement to revenue to offset the industry's resale price maintenance. I understand the desire for Bungie and Activision to increase revenue in different ways to grow their business and maybe also feed your families because that's kind of important. But FotL this year was out of control. It made me feel dirty, and it made me feel ashamed of the money I spent on this game. Don't leave things like this up to RNGesus. I've played over 1500 hours of Monster Hunter and the Desire Sensor's got nothing on this. At the end of the day, I trust Bungie (Activision, maybe not so much). I trust that they have their vision for what they want Destiny to be, and how the community will interact with itself, Bungie, and the game. I trust that they will do what they think is right for the game's future. I just hope that future is something I want to be a part of.

 • I've spent 173 days since day one release. I love Destiny... but have to say also that The Festival of the Lost has given me the most terrible taste in my mouth. When I saw the things offered in the trailer, I got excited. Until I realised that it wall ALL behind a pay wall. So over the last two weeks I eventually spent $60 on SILVER to try and get the Sparrow. All I got were the masks and once I got all the masks (except the Firewolf mask)... I got more masks and then more masks and that was it. Useless masks I'll never use. I wouldn't complain if there was a sure chance of getting the good stuff like the sparrow after spending actual cash. But no! I wouldn't count the ornaments due to there availability after FotL. But the sparrow won't be.
