At first I was ready to tear ass over the ToO 9 win boon.
Then I realized - it's already happening. Paid carries. The cancer of Trials.
So, screw it - it's probably the only way to get Bungie to do anything at all about the problem. Kind of like legalizing marijuana - legitimate it as a fairly priced commodity and you kill the criminal black market for it.
I mean, it's pretty -blam!-ing obvious by now just how profit motivated Bungie is (RNG items for real cash and 90%,of content locked behind a pay wall). It's also pretty -blam!-ing obvious by now just how fair-play apathetic Bungie is as well.
So, let them make a buck off of doing what they should have been doing for the community all along. Guess that's what it would take.

All the content locked behind the paywall is cosmetic. I wouldn't say that a few masks and ghost shells at 3 light are 90% of the game. You're overreacting.
All the content locked behind the paywall is cosmetic. I wouldn't say that a few masks and ghost shells at 3 light are 90% of the game. You're overreacting.
I didn't say 90% of the game. I was referring to this year's festival specifically. If you have 3 characters you can get a total of 3 free RNG chances at the cosmetic items. After that, you have to pay. And it stays RNG. People can do whatever they want with their money. I just find it more than a bit shady that Bungie would choose a purely RNG scheme. I mean, if it at least was tweaked so there would be no duplicates I'd be much less turned off by the business model. Oh, and the really insulting part in my opinion is that Bungie has been pushing Eververse as a way to pay for these little events. This one funds the next, and so on. Well, I've participated financially in each. So now what I'm looking at is this - I happily dropped a good amount of money to buy full sets of taken armor with the understanding that Bungie would use that money to fund the next 'event.' Well, here it is. And what is the return on my investment? Even less content than last year's festival and no way to earn more than 3 lousy boxes before I have to start paying again. Really?! To me, and many others, that's a big old '-blam!- you' from Bungie. I feel misled, at best, and lied to, at worst. Either way, Bungie lost a lot of their microtransaction customer's goodwill this go around.
