I'm considering the idea of switching from Windows 10 to Linux. I've been considering the move for a few years now, but had not acted on it. While attempting to troubleshoot a booting issue on my parents' laptop, I've now decided to make the switch from Windows to Linux on my netbook as a test run.
During my troubleshooting sessions for my parents' laptop, running the sfc /scannow command, as admin, yielded nothing. Auto repair only seems to fix the issue for 2-3 boots. Command prompt in safe mode also yields nothing. System restore did fix the issue until the suspected update was automatically reinstalled. I somehow lost the system restore points when a second system restore failed. After researching the suspected update, I learned it was supposedly optional and could be removed. All efforts to remove the "optional" update only yielded error messages saying it is a required update.
Now I'm seriously considering moving all of my computers over to Linux because it seems as though Microsoft is becoming increasingly totalitarian with their employment of their OS. I've already moved to LibreOffice from Microsoft Office, as well as, GIMP from Photoshop.
The only purpose of this post is to rant and elicit replies confirming my current bias against Windows over my most recent frustrating experience.
Edited by SuperStormDroid: 10/28/2016 4:52:50 PMI recommend Linux Mint. It is a really good OS. I recommend using the Cinnamon variant. After installing that variant, I also recommend looking up the Adapta theme for Linux, as it makes your Linux distribution look like the current version of Android.
