I Think FOTL was a Disappointing Cash Grab

**Sorry by I couldn't help it: http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff472/Pschom/Destiny/034F0478-D5A8-43A1-8AC2-028CB06BA8D3_zpsp7g0me0f.jpg -this is just a funny pic I made. I spent $10.... *This just confirms what I've written. Thanks for sharing it below. http://youtu.be/Kx2C_Q8rlNk In advance: I realize no one has to spend money and the cosmetic stuff doesn't help you in game. I have cleared all of Destiny's content and have logged thousands of hours. I'm not crying. I'm stating an opinion. I obviously very much enjoy playing Destiny. Ok, so that's out of the way... I feel that Festival of the Lost was a way to generate money through more silver purchases for rng cosmetic loot that looks very cool. This is disappointing to me because the way I see it FOTL is supposed to be something fun for us to do in Destiny. As they stated 'an event.' But it wasn't really that fun. We get three chances with these treasure of the lost boxes at something we want. Based on my experience having collected all three as well as buying a couple more with some left over silver, the rng on what you actually want is so bad that most players will never get any of that cool stuff that was advertised. I know it's all bs cosmetic stuff. I know it's going to completely obsolete in a month. But that just adds to my complaint. FOTL (IMO) is just a way to get impulsive players to buy silver and spend money. You can't grind for more treasure boxes. You have to pay for them. I almost feel embarrassed for this system in a game I've enjoyed for so many hours. *In conversation with one of you guys/gals it came to me that Division sold outfit packs, but cod sells random rng. Seems like an Activision trend here. I wonder if that's the case and I wonder if Bungie regret their business decision to go with them.

  • I think FotL was disappointing overall. I got a ghost mask, though, so I'm not that mad. After I open my last free treasure, Ghost Ghost will be mine!
The spookiest (and luckiest) seven you will ever meet
Anyone who tries to explain it away as harmless optional content is wrong. They don't put microtransactions in the game as 'truly' optional. They're designed to be manipulative. They're designed to make you feel like you're missing out on something. They're designed to make you feel jealous when you see other people with cool new gear that's weighted towards paying. That's directly impacting the experience of the person who wants to play the game they paid $100s of dollars for. I don't mind this kind of junk in free to play games, and I don't mind microtransactions in games where the DLC is free. But seeing it in full price, paid games is gross. Do you want to pay $100s for a game, only to feel like you're not getting a full experience? Nope. It's Bungie trying to have it every way they can.

      • I do agree that it's not really much of an event. I wouldn't call going back and playing already played content but with a mask on an "event".

When Bungie retired Dinklebot and replaced him with Nolandroid, a lot of people were upset. I stanchly defended them, however. I reminded them that Ghost was an essential character, and that Bungie wouldn't have done a full replace they way they did if they had had a choice. They didn't, and I'm fine with that. (aside, though, I am pleased that Peter Dinklage's nuanced performance as Ghost was missed. He was derided for "phoning it in", and I think he didn't deserve it) When Bungie announced Crimson Days I and Iron Banner Rift, a lot of the people here went absolutely ape-crap over it. And again, I condemned that. I reminded them that Bungie had gone through a lot of work to give the players a new and different Destiny experience, and they were responding with tantrums, whining, and insults. They reminded me of that horrible little girl in "Babe". When Bungie announced that Legacy consoles were being cut loose, I won't lie, I complained a few times. But I never failed to understand their decision. It was simple business, and an essential part of the evolution of gaming. Older consoles get retired for newer ones; that's why my PS3 is my game rig, and my (still functional) PS2 is now my DVD player. And I periodically reminded other despondent legacy users that we still had nearly everything we had before, and the added bonus of no further "balancing" patches (when your Stormcaller gets nerfed and starts to suck big time, ours won't). Again, I stood by them. In this matter, I cannot support them, however. There is NOTHING deplorable about microtransactions, as long as they are a given product for a given amount of money. You want a flaming wolf mask that ceases to exist after the Festival, pay 200 silver. You want one that lasts forever, pay 500. Funky emote, pay 500 more. That's all fine. However, I have heard stories of people having to pay insane amounts of silver (i.e. real money) to get the product they want, because they are forced to buy RANDOM items, and are given no alternative way to get it. Even though it's merely a cosmetic item, it is attractive and adds to their Guardian's "cool factor". Therefore, it is a desirable product. It should have been available either for direct purchase, or through the traditional practice of loot-grinding. The practice of coercing players to pay real money for something that might or might not be what they want is simply gambling in a legalized form. It's immoral, it's abusive, and it's deplorable. Am I doing to boycott Destiny? No. Primarily because I'm a legacy player, and Bungie is not profiting from my presence. Truth be told, they'd welcome my departure. However, I'm going to think hard before I purchase any more Bungie products.

This is really becoming absurd. Did anyone really believe Festival of the the Lost was going to be another Rise of Iron on the heels of Rise of Iron? This '' Babe of the woods routine '' needs to stop. Most of you have been playing this game for over two years. This is well covered territory. Acting surprised, and disappointed, and miffed, over something that occurs in every single gaming title to date, not to mention this one, is truly ridiculous. And while I can agree these items are a little overpriced, I am still realistic enough to understand this is a business. Some businesses the community respects and supports through their loyalty and their wallets, some they don't. They don't run around crying about the places of business that do not receive their money, or their prices, or their practices. Enough is enough. If you don't like what they are doing, LEAVE THE FORUMS, REMOVE THE GAME FROM YOUR COLLECTION, STOP GIVING BUNGIE YOUR MONEY, AND MOVE ON TO OTHER TITLES YOU FEEL WILL PROVIDE A MORE SOUND INVESTMENT FROM YOUR TIME AND MONEY. They have Orchestras to pay, artists, programmers, etc, etc, etc. This is one of the ways they pay employees, it's one of the ways they keep the game running. What do you think keeps this game running, good intentions? The bottom line always speaks the loudest in business, always. Yeah ok, maybe they could be a little more transparent about things like this, but do they really? Did anyone really think this would be anything other then a tongue and cheek celebration of Halloween? What were you expecting, a Halloween raid? No, it's like going to a haunted house right? You don't get in for free, you pay whatever and you get to participate. Same thing here. Start using the old noggins. Apply some context to what's going on. Honestly, does Bungie really need to come out and say most of FOTL will require money? Or are we all experienced enough as gamers to understand something as obvious as this? I would like to think it's the latter. As for the argument against micros in general. stop, stop, stop, stop it. All of you, all of us, have contributed to this. Through one gaming title or another. We have fueled the machine. We have made the demand, now publishers are providing the supply. We spoke loud and clear with our wallets through various other titles that we wanted microtransactions. We had a chance to say no, and we did not. Get off your holy soapboxes and start taking some of the responsibility for this. Blaming them for something anyone of us would do if we ran our own business when customers clearly decided they wanted certain things, is moronic. You need to make your own choices. These posts are not going to change anything if the next game you buy, along with it, you also support their micros because you think that particular game is hot shit. It works both ways. Stop being hypocritical. No more of these posts. Enough is enough. You wanted it, now own it. One last thing about the rng component. None of you have any standing there either, if you gave them the money. It says plain as day, POSSIBLE. If you keep spending and spending to try and get one item from a lever pull so to speak....How can I make this clear, THAT IS ENTIRELY YOUR FAULT. Bungie is in no way liable for your lack of self control. Starting to get the picture yet? It's called '' Accountability ''

Last year's FOTL we could grind for as much treasure bags as we wanted to improve our chances of getting loot. That's the fundamental (and very negative) difference that this year FOTL has. And when I see that they are trying to manipulate me to spend money, then that's exactly when I won't buy absolutely nothing of what they're selling. I even stopped playing FOTL quests, they give me nothing of value to play for.

          • Not to mention that games are expensive enough and addictive enough without devs (hah, Autocorrect turned 'devs' into 'fees', so apropos) putting in a gambling game that uses real money but you don't even get a chance to get that money back: at best you get a virtual item that will disappear when they stop supporting Destiny. Gamers already have addictive personalities to begin with, we don't need companies turning games into glorified gambling games where you pay for the privilege of losing your money and develop a Pavlovian conditioned response which causes people to 'throw money at the screen'. Worst of all, it's a gambling machine predicated in a clearly flawed pseudoRNG, so it's not like people even have a fair chance at getting something they want.

          • It wouldn't be so bad if you could specifically buy what you wanted, but as it is now it's like throwing money away at a slot machine.

          • If it was buy what you see for $3-$5 and not be RNG I think more people would spend money and bungie would look better to players. As is, it's using psychology to get people to hope for an item and spend dumb amounts of cash. This leaves quite a few guardians upset. Even the ones spending large amounts of cash.

            • This time around it doesn't matter if the items are purely cosmetic. It doesn't matter if people aren't forced to pay. Bungie boasted about how much bigger the events were going to be this time around, yet we got two quests (shoot stuff, play crucible) and three treasure boxes with awful drop rates and no way to continue earning them unless you pay money. How can anyone be happy with this? When I bought Rise of Iron I was not expecting half-assed events with content locked behind paywalls. I am disappointed in both Bungie and Destiny. I almost regret buying Rise of Iron and am hoping that SRL makes up for it.

Pretty much. No real rewards for doing quests just like last year so i just declined all the quests. A HUGE waste of time.

What's hilarious is, in a big F U to players that can't or won't buy Silver, Bungie included a shader this festival named 'Sea of Tears'... for free.

                    • The fact that shit "expires" is -blam!-ing stupid. Take the broom sparrow for example. A free tidbit of content (you know, because of all the money generated by Eververse) that they had to go out of their way to design and code into the game and then they're gonna turn around and take it back out?!?! They're literally getting rid of content already in the game, not to mention it's the ONE sparrow that isn't a blatant reskin of the SAME SHIT THEY'VE BEEN GIVING US.
