I noticed this when I was doing crucible the other night. Usually I rarely get any legendary loot from crucible matches, but of course when I was wearing a mask for the festival quest and was down 40 points in my light level, I got 3 subsequent drops that are all useless now (there even was a primary, which I desperately needed to increase my light level).
Suggestion: Why not base loot drops on our maximum achievable light level from all the gear in our inventory (or our maximum achieved light level so far)?
This way we would not have to wear our highest light level gear all the time in fear of getting subpar rewards.
Want to try out that new exotic hand cannon in the crucible, but it's only 350? No problem!
No more equipping your max gear every time you want to decrypt exotic engrams!
Please support, so Bungie can raise an eyebrow.
TLDR
Loot drops should be based on the maximum achieved light level so far, so that we can have more freedom of choice for our equipped gear.
EDIT: The max achieved light level could be displayed as a small number above the current light level.

It's designed to make you prioritize your upgrading. I don't see a problem, just switch your gear back before the boss drops/crucible ends.

I just wish loot was based on LL of its slot not your average LL. For instance if your light level is 390, and you have a 393 Ghost, subsequent Ghost drops should be between 391-395 not 388-393. This is the worst part of light leveling right now because one piece of gear has the potential to make it impossible to gain light until you luck out and get a piece for that slot.

I feel the same way... Like having to run strikes with a mask on means my boss drops.will be wasted. And I don't have as much time to waste as most people.

They're not useless as they are easily infused I'd be happy I got a crucible weapon regardless of light level
