This might have been posted, but so many salty people not properly understanding how and when to use Strike Chests and Exotic engrams after 390 LL. Strike Chests and Exotic engrams will raise your light level if used properly. You should wait until one item is 4-5 light levels lower than the rest of your gear, then use the strike chest or engram. If you are level 390, and your primary is 391, and you open say the Will of Crota chest, your chances of getting a primary with higher light level is minimal. Now say you were doing Bond Bros, your light level is 390, gauntlets are at 385, pop the chest, and your odds at a higher level gauntlet increases. Strike chests are working properly, but if you are opening them at the wrong time, they will not help. Same goes for exotic engrams, you should wait until whichever engram you have is a few light levels behind the rest of your gear. RNG will screw you if you let it, but if you know how to make it work in your favor, you increase your chances of gaining light levels quicker TLDR: Dont just randomly open strike chests and exotic engrams after 390. Make sure the chest or engram slot you are opening is a few light levels below the rest of your gear. Edit 1: You don't necessarily have to wait until gear is 4-5 LL below, but it is helpful to maximize the jump in LL for that particular piece of gear. Remember you are still at the mercy of the RNG gods.
